Description

Along this dirt road there are 7 established and marked (tent graphic sign) camping spots on both sides of the road (see photos). These are the only official campsites so get here early. A few are on the side of the Tongue River. There is daytime traffic going to the Tongue River / Canyon trailhead 1-1/2 miles up the road. Sites have BBQ/ firepits available. Also a pit toilet at the beginning of the camping area and another set at the trailhead. Beautiful hiking into the canyon with river views throughout. Full AT&T and Verizon LTE reception!

** EDIT**. Attack of the no-seeums around 5pm. Filled the camper with them! Beware.

BLM Rec Area. FCFS and free. 7 sites along the Tongue River. No drinking water, no trash, 5 day limit. Pit toilet is very clean. This camp is 3 mi down a good gravel road out of Dayton. Perfect for tenters, vans, truck campers, and tiny trailers. Verizon service allowed us to text, call, and browse maps for directions. Big rigs beware; there is no where to turn around if the sites are full. It’s a long straight road in a river canyon, dead-ending at a small TH a mile further up the road. There is very little shade here, some, but not much. The river is ice cold and has a shallow swim spot if you dare. Getting the right spot here makes it or breaks it for us. We love it when we get lucky.

Camped at site 2 for three nights. Hiked part of the Tongue River Trail at the end of the road. Highly recommend it. I’d skip the cave spur trail (across the silver bridge) as it’s gated, super steep in sections, and has graffiti. I’m adding pics from the TRT 002. Overall nice area. There is traffic going to the trailhead. Only 7 campsites (see pics of sign) so get here early. Site 1 seemed to be pushing the 5 day limit? I’d definitely stay again.

Another awesome spot! Sites are not maintained, but they are mostly dry. Didn't check out the toilet situation. Road coming in is really nice.

Beautiful area, easily accessible just inside the canyon. Sites of various sizes, most with fire pits. About a quarter occupied on a Wednesday in May. Pit toilet near the first few sites. 2 bars Verizon. Mostly quiet, although there were a few loud motorbikes speeding up and down the road late at night.

Increíble location, quiet secluded, it was raining but ground was pretty solid....

Finally a spot that says “camp here”. Clean, empty and not too far off the highway

Beautiful campground right by the river, we got the last one available! It was 100* the day we arrived and we immediately went for a dip in the river. People were fishing nearby.

Very nice set of spots. Although there are indeed nice metal fire pits, didn't dare use it due to extremely high risk of forest fires. Quiet location right beside a little babbling creek. Finding an open spot wasn't difficult, just keep going along until you get to the one that suits you.

Pulled into a spot right by the bathrooms on a Monday night and was the only car here. No toilet paper in bathroom. Nice spots though, car camping. One bar Verizon LTE. Sign says max stay 5 nights.

Great semi-dispersed campsites along an easily accessible road. The best site is your second left after the vault toilets down and to the right. It's right at the river and off the main road. Go to the end of the road (1.4 miles from this spot) and there is a trailhead that leads to an amazing hike along the tongue River.

Excellent spot, i didn't find it at the beginning because I thought it was after Dayton. But when you enter in town and pass the bridge, the indication for the camping are the one for the spot. Then, on the dirt road, when you see a Y, choose left to go to the river.

Such a great spot we came back about a week later. Great hiking/fishing at end of the road. Make sure you arrive in the early afternoon or before because spots tend to find up quick on the weekend.

Report Check-In

Wonderful spot next to the river. Little bit of traffic on the gravel road. Spots seemed to fill up quick on Friday afternoon between 5-6pm. Beautiful hiking/running trails at end of the road.

Okay spot, just off the road. Not very secluded, but easy to access.
