Zimbabwe
Large flat grassed area for camping (previously a bowling green) on a golf course. Access to electricity and water, close proximity to clubhouse, locker rooms, hot showers, toilets, restaurant and bar. Quiet and peaceful with access to lovely walks on the golf course with its wonderful trees and birdlife. Good security.
Great place right next to golf course. Big open grassy area with enough shade. Friendly staff, bar and restaurant, and Kevin helps you with anything you need. In case you like golf, they let you borrow some clubs and play some holes.
The fee is US$5 pppn and $5 daily for the vehicle.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Went to check this out but women’s ablutions (Golf club locker room) was really run down and small (Men’s were much better), and a long walk from a campsite. A bit ”shaggy” and tired atmosphere, too. We didn’t stay, we went to La Rochelle instead.
Report Check-InGreat place to stop for a night or two. Kevin is super friendly and good to chat to
The bar, deck and other social areas are free to use as you please and there is WiFi though not very fast or stable but its a minor inconvenience.
Grassy area is great and the area is quiet. Kevin also helped us change some dollars and recommended a place to eat as well as to get a sim card! Food in the bar was served quickly and tasted great too
Very glad we stayed here! Great if you like cats too as Lucy, the ginger lady of the house, loves attention!
The old bowling field is perfect to camp. Kevin is an amazing host. He goes out of his way to make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need. The golf course is great for a good walk and brilliant for birding. We will return and hope to play a round of golf next time. Ablutions are the golf club locker rooms. Not great, but it works. Kevin is trying his best to upgrade things. All in all a wonderful stay! Club restaurant also serves a good meal.
Report Check-InA great place to stay, especially for Overlander. Kevin is a great host and really cares and give tips.
Everything else like described.
Everything as allready mentioned, Kevin is a wonderful host, full of knowledge and good advices for traveling Zim. place is peaceful in lovely nature. We loved the old building of the golfclub, built in 1931 with its old, colnial charme.
Don’t miss this place for at least one night.
A great place to stay - Kevin goes over and above to make sure you have everything you need. As mentioned previously - bathrooms are opened and hot showers sorted. $5US pp and $5US for the car. The golf course is a stunning place to walk through, and the town has a lot going on. Meals at the golf club range between $US6-8 and you can get a lovely flat white coffee over the road at the deli and garden nursery.
Report Check-InWould give 6 stars if I could. Kevin is really nice, and loves having guests. The restaurant is a bit pricey, but you can get cheap local food 2.5 km south of here.

Report Check-InSuch a great place for a stopover before going through the border to Mozambique. Kevin caught us right at the entrance and greeted us very friendly. We had a peaceful night and Kevin enquired for us information from previous travelers on which roads to take in Moz and which not.

Report Check-InAs already written. Lovely, peaceful place to camp. Loved walking on the beautifully kept golf course and chatting to Kevin.
Report Check-InGreat place to stop. It’s not a formal campsite but has everything you need as one can use the showers and toilets from the golf course. WiFi is not very fast but available inside. But, what made our stay one of the most pleasant stays we had so far in Zim, was Kevin! He takes care of the place and is a true gentleman. He helped us with visa issues we had to solve and lots of other questions and was so patient. He wants you to feel at home in Mutare/Zim.
Food is available all day and is nice and reasonably priced (we had chicken kebab), the same goes for drinks. The bartender and other people working there are all very kind as well.
A bit out of town but still not too far to walk to the center (about 25 min).
Electricity and water are available at the campsite.
Report Check-InWe camped here for several nights and were made to feel very welcome. Walks around the golf course listening to the birdsong and the beautiful trees.
The food in the clubhouse is good and cheap.
Kevin Woodward is an institution in his own. That's why people like to come back here. We didn't use the toilets and showers in the clubhouse.
The water pressure at the tap on the camping meadow was very low during our stay.

Report Check-InAs nice as everyone else has mentioned, even more. Comfortable camping spot, clean facilities (bit old, but actually with a nice oldschool vibe), electricity and water available, wifi, what else do you need? the restaurant/bar is affordable and the food is nice! And Kevin is great!
