Came up here to find entrance blocked and "campground closed" sign. I'm disappointed because it's a really nice spot.

Report Check-In

Nice clea campground. Not crowded, very clean bathrooms. No amenities. Requires an adventure pass or an interagency (america the beautiful)

Report Check-In

Came here Sunday and stayed 4 nights. really nice having the bathrooms and dumpster. amazing solar in some areas. the place never came close to filling up. definitely not big rig friendly. on the third day, a ranger did stop asking for my rec pass or something similar, despite it being right in the windshield. he was friendly after showing him the pass. there seems to be a homeless man living towards the top, he is not friendly and sits on his phone all day speaking Russian? I'm not sure, but we didn't bother him and he never bothered us. great cell phone reception, if you walk up past the boys scout fence, it looks confusing because it says stay out private property, but the national forest trail head up Whitaker Peak is right back there and he said despite the gate being closed, you can go back there. great cell phone reception. would stay again, especially with such few options around Castaic and area.

Nice calm campsite with clean pit toilet

Report Check-In

Great little overnight spot campsite. Free with your annual national parks pass but like other reviewers no one checked. Hidden and tucked away but close to I5. Pit toilets were clean. Got there around 3pm and plenty of open campsites. Did get full overnight.

Report Check-In

As described! Easy access off of I-5, just an hour north of LA (even in traffic), and excellent Verizon/Visible service. Sunday night and only three other campers so far. The highway is in the distance so it’s not super remote but I’m amazed at this free campground. Definitely coming back!

Report Check-In

great spot to camp for a couple days. didn't seem busy at all. pit toilet was clean, spot is well removed form the LA vibes and sketchiness. you can just barely hear the highway.

I displayed my America the Beautiful pass in my windshield but didn't notice any FS employees during my 2 day stay. would revisit if I ever decide to be in the LA area again.

Report Check-In

Great spot free 14days with adventure pass or recreation pass, close to Castaic Lake. Clean pit toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, dumpsters. No fires allowed when we were there. Surprisingly few people for a weekend. Some noise from the 5 but distant. Good many good shade spots. Spots are decently spaced for an established camp ground. Plan to be back.

Report Check-In

Perfect for when you get stuck in rush hour traffic and can’t get further for the evening. Google maps is tricky. I risked it and took the through road it’s only 100 feet.

Really cool little clean campground. You need to have a America The Beautiful pass or something similar. There is no option to pay here so keep that in mind. Was peaceful until some people came up in here with a 40' RV towing a trailer and got stuck for 2 hours. Gunning the engine, going back and forth, people running around the RV with flashlights and yelling before they finally got unstuck and left with their tails between their legs. lol....moral of the story....don't come here with a big rig! Google will send you down a suspect road right off the 5 next to a brake check area with a sign saying Authorized Vehicles Only... disregard and go down that road for a few minutes. It'll take you to old highway 99 and you'll find it from there! Edit...I was woken up at 7:30am by a ranger asking me if I had a pass to camp here that was CLEARLY hung on my window in a neon green hanger. Didn't appreciate that very much even though he was nice about it.

This place is actually open, and pretty awesome (see pic).

Report Check-In

Sweet little campsite if you have the America the Beautiful pass. We stayed one night. No fires allowed. There was a fireman that walked through around 6pm making sure no one had fires or were cooking outside. Next morning a forest ranger was doing the same.
There's 20 spots, not many of them are super flat for sleeping in an RV but we found a decent spot in our campervan. 2 small outhouse toilets, Bear bins and food storage available as well. Great cell service!

Report Check-In

Really nice place for free if you have the pass America the beautiful ! easy to access and pretty quiet.
Any kind of fire is prohibited from now til end of next year.

Report Check-In

FREE Nice Campground with average 20 spots or more. Nice road to access . Spots available for regular camper (till 10 meters I think) but maybe not very large rigs. Nice view, Grill pits, fire pits and picnic tables. Good atmosphere and felt safe. No registration, free with national américain beautiful pass. Did not see any price if you you do not have the pass. No one came check it. No water. Trash available. Toilets smells bad but it’s ok. No showers. The campground is very clean and quiet in general. Full ATT coverage. Apparently open during winter but any fire (gas fire stove include) are prohibited due to high risk. I recommend

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

is Campground is closed its privately owned now $20 per night

Report Check-In

Yes! Really a good campground, especially, if only 3 other tents\ RVs are present. The trees give some shade, but don't block the view, like bushes do. So it's a "transparent" campground, good for the quality... And lots of stones mark the ways and individual places... T-MOBILE 5bars

Report Check-In

Free use with National Parks pass! Pit toilets are average, fire pits and tables at most sites. Google Maps directions from the North were incorrect for us, access is from the Golden State highway.

Report Check-In

just as described. pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings with grates. highway noise is there but minimal. nearly full on a summer weekday at 8pm.

Report Check-In

Although it did feel a little spooky driving into here at 11pm. We were very happy & surprised (after a very quiet night's sleep) to wake to a really nice little campground, in a nature setting. Little birds chirping, quiet neighbors, clean pit toilets. We would definitely stay here again.

Report Check-In

Good spot. Pretty full for a Sunday in early March, but quiet and mellow nonetheless. Bonus: lots of hiking trails nearby.

Report Check-In

stopped here late at night driving to LA. good place to crash and close to the hwy. but far enough from hwy not to be bothered by lights and sound

Report Check-In

Nice quiet shaded campground, free with the America the beautiful card
