Here you reach the highest point between Antofalla and Antofagasta. It is about 4600m high and the road is very steep in both directions (RP44 osm). We came from Antofagasta and couldn't get up the hill without unloading a few kilos ;) We have a Mercedes 308d non turbo. The road is in good condition but you need a lot of power or low transmission. From Antofalla to Antofagasta it is much steeper!
We don't have any photos of this place yet.

This is a ridiculous warning. If you are driving around the Puna you should be ready for steep bumpy roads with loose corners. It is a gorgeous route, but nothing out of the ordinary road wise.
Report Check-InComing from Antofagasta the inclination is not that big - long and steady climb! The road is in bad condition, but we don't need the 4x4! We came on our Defender 110, but we were with friends with a van Iveco, who made the way without much difficulty (but their car is high!).

Report Check-InWe made a route with diesel mecanic Nissan Xterra 2003 (with modifications and 3 Ton) from Tolar Grande - Antofalla to Antofagasta. In this part of trail, Slowly and 2wd. No problems at well. We came from Brazil!
Report Check-InWe were a little bit concerned about this warning but we made it from Antofalla to Antofogasta without a single issue. Steep parts on the begining but nothing worst than plenty of others tracks in this area. First gear, high rpm in the steep parts and it works perfectly with our Land Rover Defender and small camper.
Report Check-InIt is steep at the top. I can see that older diesel vehicles might struggle here. No problem for our modern petrol engine though. 2nd gear, easy going.
Report Check-InDownhill was no problem at all. Even with a truck easy going.

Going from Abtofagasta to Antofalla iz was not a problem for our Toyota 4runner. 2nd gear and not even full gas. But the road on the other side of the pass is a lot steeper! Would highly recommend traveling towards north on this route.
