Description

Brand new cabin built near near the trailhead for Laguna Pescado and the longer hike around the island.

The cabin has a bunk bed (sleeps 4 very comfy or 6 a little close together) with no mattress (plywood) and a tiny wood stove, a table and a chair. Has lake access for water and an outhouse. There is a stack of firewood outside. Unfortunately someone has broken the chair already.

Reservation: this cabin is free of use and there is no reservation needed and no permits to fill out. Basically if you show up and it is vacant, you can use it. However the Park ranger made it very clear that it is not meant to hang out in, it is only meant as a basecamp to go do the two hikes on the island. When you enter the park, you can ask the ranger if he thinks the cabin on the island is free and since the park gets very little visitors, he probably will know if someone is there. Then you can tell him that you want to use it as a base to do the hikes. We recommend doing this because the ranger can then tell people coming in that it is taken for the next day and you won't have visitors checking it out. We told him we would use it for two days and that was fine by him.

Road and walk to the cabin: there is a pretty good road that makes it all the way to the lakes edge. Note:There is a slope of clay that probably is very slick when wet because there is a sign that says the road is closed on rainy days. Then from the parking lot, you will have to haul your stuff about 500 meters to the island(there is a strip of dirt that connects the island to the rest of the park)

There is a little latch to put a lock to the cabin while you are gone hiking.

Very nice cabin in superb condition.
The cabin has a nice view of one of the bluest lakes you have ever seen and mountains on the other side of the lake. On warm days you can swim in the lake. I went for a swim but a short one as the water is pretty cold.

Enjoy and please keep it clean and haul all of your stuff out.

Extremely nice well kept and clean hut (and all for free!). 6 beds on two levels of one bunk bed. Chairs and a table inside as well as a pot, some cutlery and a tea kettle (if you do not want to carry stuff).
The oven heats the hut in no time. There is a good stack of firewood behind the hut.
If you are coming from Lago Posadas via the 4x4 route make sure to check in with the rangers first since they manage the occupancy of all the huts. However we had this place to ourselves.
The parking lot is located at the trailhead which is 600m from the hut.

Correcting the category, nothing else to say.

Huala refuge. Small refuge for 6 people. There are two large beds with mattresses a small table several seats and a wood stove that perfectly heats the cabin. There is also a good reserve of wood. A little further there are toilets. 50 m below the hut there is a beach overlooking the lake. In very good condition it is perfect.
