Very scenic route - all tar except for about 22 km of good gravel. It is called Cirquito de los Misiones, part of Ruta del Desierto. A few places to pull out if you need to overnight too.
Fuel up before leaving Arica!!

A31 between Zapahuira and the Panamerican Highway is almost entirely paved. It's a nice motorcycle route. Almost no traffic. Nice views, though nothing spectacular.
Report Check-InI was a bit disappointed with the Circuito de missiones. it’s a long drive and views are okay but not spectacular. Some of the churches are more like a shag with a bell. Wouldn’t recommend
Report Check-InNice road. At the moment they’re working on wider bridges on the 22 km of moderate to good gravel road. Soon (in 1 or 2 years?) the whole stretch will be asphalt road.
Report Check-InAmazing road, very beautiful! We loved the beautiful surroundings. The 22 km dirt road is between Belen and Tignamar. Very duable. We took our 2wd van out there and where perfectly fine. From Wildcamp Pukara de Copaquilla to PanAm at the Statues, it took us about 5 hrs.
Report Check-InVery scenic route - all tar except for about 20 km of good gravel. It is called ruta de los misiones. A few places to pull out if you need to overnight too.
