Something not right?

Description

We got stuck here for 55+ hours in our AWD van. Washed out, severe ruts and impossible to go back due to mud. Do not take this road, in any kind of rig! There is no way through to the other end due to waist-deep ruts and landslides. This was in rainy season, but any other time of year this would still be impossible. We met a cyclist coming from the south on this road and he said it was only wide enough for him and his bike in some parts.

Continue on 1km south and there is a new road through to mollepata. Although already only accessible through on bicycle or motorbike, there are sections that have already eroded making the road too narrow for anything bigger.

Report Check-In

As the bikepacking route is impassable (huge landslide) and the way Cachicadan - Mollepata is currently a mess because of road works, we are finally pretty happy to have taken this road. It took us as well 2 days to go down to Mollebamba but the LI-115 well worth it!

Being on bicycles, we have taken this road as it seemed to us as the best option from Huamachuco to reach Mollepata. Everything described below is right, 3 huge washouts to go through. For the last one, we had to take out the panniers off my bike. Being in the middle of dry season, I think we had the best conditions to go through this way. And as the bikepacking route is impassable (impassable lamdslide) way Cachicadan - Mollepata is currently a mess

This road is not a road this is a hiking path !! It is impossible to use this road with any other vehicle than a bicycle because you have to carry your bicycle very often. It took us 2 days (only downhill !!) to reach Mollebamba. We only could cycle the last 6 km all the others (round about 12 km) we were pushing and carrying our bicycles. We had to put off our panniers 5 or 6 times to cross the rivers and canyons. It is extremely rocky. But if you are looking for a challenge there is a stunning landscape. Dont use this road with any other vehicle than a bicycle !!

Confirmed, crazy road! More of a trail. We also made it through with two DR650s but not without challenge. I definitely wouldn't attempt this alone or on anything bigger. No possible way for a 4 wheeler to get through.

Report Check-In

This road is crazy. We made it on two DR650s but we had to spend the night half way through. At one point we stopped for an hour to build a road through a washout. There are three places are extremely difficult. One is a goat path which is a foot wide that bypasses the washed out road. Multiple times I had to remove all my luggage to make it though. The other two are washed out roads that require building your way through. Not for the faint of heart of BMW riders. We made it going down the mountain but it is literally impossible going up.

This is not AN101 but AN118. AN101 is a bit further and well passable. But yes, THIS road is a mess. I turned my motorbike back exactly where the marker is.
