Description

On the main reception building from the Kgalagadi Park there is a desk for Botswana Immigration and one for South Africa Immigration.
We arrived from Mata-Mata and after a couple of days we proceeded to Botswana. The proceed was very simple:
- the Botswana immigration stamp in our passports
- no stamp on the carnet
- no fees to be paid
- a quick vehicle inspection was done (they didn't ask about food)

From Botswana to Namibia
French passports. French car (LR Defender)

Entered KTP in Mabuasehube (Bots). Stayed in this part for few days (you need to deal with DWNP for this part). Really worth with. So wild, so remote. We loved it !

Arrived in Nossob after one night in Matopi 2. 3h30 drive on a very corrugated sand track. Slept 1 night in Nossob Campsite (422 for 2, booked online 2 weeks ahead)

Stamped out from Bots the next day in Two Rivers. No need to stamp in for SA as we are going to Nam through Mata Mata. 5 min for exiting Botswana
If you want to exit KTP in Twe Rivierien, you need to stamp in with SS immigration. Same building.

Slept a second night in KTP (Mata Mata Campsite, same price, same process as Nossob). If you cross the KTP you have to spend minimum 2 nights inside the park.

Exit KTP through Mata Mata. Stamp in our passports and CPD for Namibia. Careful if you already spent time in Namibia, max 3 months per year (at this border they Checked)

Enjoy the KTP experience, this area is really amazing. Really worth the drive. Full of lions, cheetahs, hyenas, eagles, wild beast, oryx, .... Just be careful it was VERY hot and VERY dry at this time this year !

PS : small supermarkets and Total fuel stations in Nossob, Twe Rivieren and Mata Mata

Easiest border crossing in Africa so far! 10 minutes in total (exit SA, enter BOTS as in same building), no fees, no checks 👍👍 Immigration officers were very friendly.

Report Check-In

Exited SA at Twee Rivieren - Australian car on Carnet. Stated intention to exit into Namibia at Mata Mata in 10 days time.

Police entered vehicle details into system and inspected car. Insisted that CDP needed to be stamped out, even though remaining in SACU.

Process all very quick and easy and all in the one building.

We exited at Mata Mata and we were referred to customs in Keetmanshoop for carnet to be stamped into Namibia. Which was no problem. Customs location in Keetmanshoop is correct per iOverlander.

Report Check-In

Enter and exit Kgalagadi here, as all borders from park were closed. We waited to check for new border openings planned for 1 Dec via Kgalagadi; Bokspits reopened 2 Dec to Bots, but delayed opening meant PCR done in SA was outdated by 1 day.
Options: cross into Nam at the Nakop border that remained open (PCR needs to be no older than 7 days), or take another PCR for Bots and drive to Mahikeng to enter Bots border. Still cannot cross Bots border from SA side of Kgalagadi, have to remain within Bots side of Kgalagadi. Mabua border pen but only accessible if you enter from Mahikeng side.
