Description

Free. Fairly flat grassy field parking lot for the hike to sarcophagus Karajia

Note - this exact site is now a building site but We're stayed about 200m up the street in front of the school. We were 2 Mercedes big rigs. So there is still an option to overnight in Karajia.

Friendly community and feels very welcoming. Spent the night after a late visit to the statues. We camped in our van next to park (flat area) and motorcycle friend camped under the gazebo.

The southern road in is much better and shorter. The northern is more rocky/corrugated and more potholes

There are clean bathrooms in the tourist assistance center but no showers. There is WiFi in the Tourism Center

Slept one day here waiting for the rain to stop. Super quiet and felt save.

Quiet, flat campsite with toilets available in the building where you buy your tickets. IMPORTANT NOTE there are 2 different roads here from Lamud - we took the North one and barely made it through in our high clearance 4wd! We returned the next day on the South road and it's easy, wide, flat.

This location is the center of town. Found flat space and was told it was fine. Didn’t need bathroom. Curious kids. Barking dogs. Quiet night. Don’t block roads as tourist vans arrive and turn.

Sleep here one night. Very quiet and nice villagers around, many kids. Safe. Public toilet close to the registration building, open from 8-5. Only a few level spots. Some little shops around. Restaurant closed. Sunday.

We were told we could park on the other side of the plaza from where you register for walk down to Karajia. Was level and we got 4G Bitel reception! Can be lots if kids around so if you have treats/gifts good place to share some.

Unfortunately the grassy field doesn't exist anymore. the town is building a Plaza there. Not sure if camping will be possible again when they are finished.

Getting to Karajia might seem a little bit rough but it's worth it. We parked in the big lawn. There are horses for rent for 15 soles up and down and the entrance to the Place is 5 soles p/p. It gets a little chilly at night, there's a restaurant also but didn't eat there

Very friendly village. Bought tickets for Karajila from the ladies and asked them about parking overnight. No problems and they gave us a key to the public toilets for the night. Extremely quiet!

Report Check-In

Village Green/ car park in centre of village, very friendly, toilets are locked but open on request by lady who takes the 5 sol per person entry fee. Local kids changed from climbing the trees in the centre of the green to climbing the ladder of our roof tent, at one point we had 8 sitting on or hanging off the ladder.
