Description

Parking lot at the museum. Guards very friendly when we asked if we could stay for the night. Fairly quiet on the main road through town at the far end of town. Many mosquitoes at sunset if you park next to the field. Gate was locked at 6 pm and opened at 9 am.

large parking lot perfect for one night. residents stay in the evening and morning. quiet between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
doors closed at 4 p.m.
the museum opens at 8 a.m., animals are allowed in the museum. it's not the best museum but the first one that talks about Olmec culture.
I suppose it is possible to sleep in the parking lot without going to the museum

Report Check-In

We stayed one night on the parking lot without issue. The guard came to us before closing the gates at 6pm. They were reopened at 8am the following morning. The parking lot is adjacent to a road but there is not that much traffic so we slept OK.

Report Check-In

Nice free place to spend the night before visiting the Olmec ruins. The guard told us it is ok to sleep here. The archeological place is really nice. Cost 75 pesos per person.
Some friendly local families on the evening.
Lot of mosquitos.

Report Check-In

We arrived at 4pm and we thought the place was permanently closed. Gates were closed but not locked, and found a guard that told us parking overnight is totally fine. The museum and parking is right next to a high school so lots of kids where hanging out in the parking lot, everyone was super friendly. It’s a busy area, but seems to quiet down a bit after 10pm

Just a note: they do lock the gate overnight and it doesn’t get unlocked until 9am

Good spot for a night, just ask before at the Museum. Also the Museum is really nice. In the evening many friendly Locals.

great museum, although a part is closed. This is the first one, after Tres Zapotes and San Lorenzo which is open partly. Fascinating to find the colossal heads outside and imagine the Olmecs living here. didnt stay overnight but could easily do so

Report Check-In

Good place as described. Museum hours 9 to 3, entrance 60pp, well worth the visit to see the colossal heads of the Olmec culture.
