Nice and very quiet spot. Wonderful sunset and sunrise. Friendly guard.
The way up from the Lodge to is more than bad. The upper half is paved, in the first half are 3 very bad sections. The good thing is, the first ones comes quite at the beginning. If your car doesn't like it there, better turn and camp at the lodge. We did it in a heavy loaded Jimny, was at the limit.

The guard was super friendly. We arrived late. The gate at the bottom was closed, but the exit was open, so we passed trough. And climbed up with our defender. 4x4 is absoludley recomendet. Very quiet at night and the sunrise was amazing. Great hike!!!

Arrived at sunset, asked the guy at the office (who was in bed already) if I can sleep at the parking lot for the night. He said sure and was very nice, said lots of people do it.
The road is bad but doable for a 4x4, just go slow and don’t be shy to use low gear. Won’t recommend driving it if the weather is not optimal. Last kilometer or so is still paved road.

The road from the lodge to the car park is REALLY bad. Added a photo. We were told it used to be good, but massive rain falls over the last three years have worn it down. Definitely doable for a 4x4 including big rigs as long as you have sufficient ground clearance. But bring lots of time. Apparently, the national government had once provided money for the road to be fixed, but once the money was with the municipal government, it magically disappeared. However, the national government has now directly commissioned someone to pave the road and works are supposed to begin over the coming months. Fingers crossed that'll happen.

Cold and windy. We parked in front of hut with no door for shelter. 2 bar vodacom. Don’t come if weather is bad or foggy, you will barely see anything. 100 R to hike, 60R to enter. We drove up using 4x4 low on a foggy day. Toilets not flushing, shower not working so don’t bother as they are filter, especially after the hikers use them

we stood with our camper 2 days with overnight stay on the parking bay, without problems, free of charge. 2 watchmen were very friendly. If it had to do, nevertheless, problems admit or the gate to the parking bay is closed, one can park before the gate and spend the night. Because the way a dead end is one has his rest at night. The wanderings of the parking bay are wonderful to recommend very much.
wir standen mit unserem Wohnmobil 2 Tage mit Übernachtung auf dem Parkplatz, ohne Probleme, kostenfrei. Die 2 Wachmänner waren sehr freundlich. Sollte es doch Probleme geben oder das Tor zum Parkplatz ist geschlossen, kann man vor dem Tor parken und übernachten. Da der Weg eine Sackgasse ist hat man seine Ruhe in der Nacht. Die Wanderungen von den Parkplatz sind wunderschön, sehr zu empfehlen.

Perfect place for the night before or after the hike. Beautiful views. The street is sometimes really bad. Big stones and potholes. But sometimes perfect. No problem for big rigs.

had a quiet (but cold) night at the car park and did the chain ladder hike the next morning. it's 90 rand pp for the hike and it seems they just built (or are still building) a station house where they have toilets and will have showers one day when they manage to get running water.

at official Sentinel Carpark ( with guardians) where the walk starts to Sentinel. had a Quiet Night here before the walk.
road to Carpark is partially rough!
