Coming from the Kikonga side going to Busisi - very easy to get here and a guard will help you with where to go when you arrive. Our hilux was 6000 plus 400 per passenger.
They seem to come regularly, we were on the ferry within 30 min of arriving. Lots of snacks and things to buy around. They made me get out and go through the passenger area while my partner drove the car through the car line, but I got back in eventually - weird!

We got very lucky and drove straight to the front of queue on the motorbike and straight onto the ferry. If on a bike don’t bother buying a ticket in the queue, you can pay the guard at the front and he will give you one. Cost 1400tsh for bike and driver, 400tsh for passenger. Can buy snacks on ferry, samosas were good!

Can purchase food, hot drinks, cold drinks, and beers on board.

I got chatting to a local guy who said the busiest times were Friday afternoon/evening and Sunday afternoon/evening because people are travelling for the weekend. On a Saturday it morning, it took me 1-1.5 hours from purchasing a ticket to departing the ferry on the other side. Apparently, they're currently sampling the ground under the water, and if it's suitable then they would build a bridge.

paid 9.100TZS for 4 persons and one car
waited 30 minutes for ferry
if you are not at the front of the queue with your car you will have to wait for the next ferry as more buses/trucks get onto it
two ferries were operating when we visited

Report Check-In

It took us less than 3 hours. There were two ferries. First the busses were allowed first but when the queue got longer of the cars the cars were let first on the boat. The road is very good after that. So it’s worth the wait.

Transit time with our own car = 4.5hours ! (only 1 ferry used for the crossing over, 4 cars per ferry, absolute priority given to busses & trucks). Better to use private companies operating from Mwanza (Kamanga ferry)!!
