Latest Check-Ins

All of these designated backcountry campsites require a $10/night permit, reservable starting 24 hours in advance, in person at one of two visitor centers: we did so at the Panther Junction visitor center at opening time (8:30am). The original set of coordinates are not correct – maybe my posting this now will correct them?

Road in from the paved road from the south is definitely rough, requiring decent high clearance. We were fine in our Ford Transit 4x4 camper van conversion (QuadVan conversion, 2” lift, all terrain tires, etc).

It’s interesting to see that there are plenty of good pull-off spots even just along the short distance between the paved road and this first site, coming from the south, but none of these are legal. There are only a handful of allowed, designated “backcountry” campsites along this road and the others in the park. Dispersed camping is not allowed in the park.

Private spot, make sure to check with park rangers to learn about current state of roads leading to primitive campgrounds. Few heavy rain days can change conditions.

Report Check-In

Nice spot just 1 mile off the pavement. Requires reservation/permit. If you pick your line in the difficult sections you should be ok in 2WD but it is a 4x4 trail so use your common sense. Rocky area but flat. Marked clearly so easy to find. No Verizon or AT&T LTE. No shade. Pack it in, pack it out along with the previous tenants trash. No fires

Report Check-In

Although we probably could make it in our Promaster it would take forever. Turned around at the first big spot.

Report Check-In

We booked this place at Panther Junction. The road was bumpy for a 2wd. We were not able to find the place at these coordinates.
