don't expect peace and quiet during the day. quiets down after dark. great night sky.

Overall really nice place. Went on a weekday and found a spot super easily. I was able to pull in fine in my minivan. Tons of space, very quiet, aside from some vehicle noise in the distance.

Report Check-In

Came in after dark, left just before sunrise. Found a spot not far off the main jawbone road on some soft stuff the crv was able to handle - bottomed out a little once. Not sure if it was one of the designated/allowed sites. Posted rules mentioned campfires ok with a permit - and I think said CAMO on designated areas. A few vehicles drove by on the main road early well before sunrise - otherwise just quiet and windy. Barely had cell overnight, reception got better in the am. Imagine you could drive to other sites for better reception. Seemed like 20 mins from any stores/supplies.

I didn't stay as far up this road where these coordinates are, but there are plenty of spots. The road is paved with OHV trails in every direction. I stayed closer to the road since the sand is soft. I have mixed feelings about this area. We were awoken at 5 am by at least 30 different vehicles and semis traveling up the road. Good spot for an overnight, but I don't think I would stay here again.

There are many campsites here, some are closer to the road, some further. We stayed at site 10 because we pulled in after dark and it easy to find. If you continue down the road you’ll eventually find two pit toilet facilities (one about midway, and the other closer to the end of the ohv area). The next closest pit toilets are at the visitor center. Quiet on a weekday.

A lot of free camp spots, perfect! Most of them have easy access and you can choose to stay a little further of the road. But it’s a quite road. Maybe busy in the weekend with ATV-enthusiasts.

Report Check-In

Nice paved road leads all the way in from Hwy 14. Numerous campsites, with some easy to access right next to the paved road if you don’t mind a bit of road noise in the morning. I easily fit my truck and travel trailer at site 10A (on the right side just past original poster’s coordinates). Windy in January.
