Description

This is a beautiful area on a plateau between the Rio Grande Gorge, and the Red River on the other side. There are 5 different campgrounds, all very similar. Campsites have shade structures, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Campgrounds have vault toilets (clean), garbage service, and water available. No electric hookups. There are probably some of the sites you could get a big rig into, but the sites where I stayed wouldn't really fit anything over about 25 feet.

Many of the sites have views into one of the gorges, and there are superb hiking options. You can either hike around the mesa top, or hike down into the gorge, and along the river. It's beautiful there, and worth the hike back up!

Nice spot! It’s definitely worth $7 a night. There’s shade and greenery. The river gorge is nearby, it’s a beautiful view. There is a faucet for water and clean bathrooms.

Beautiful area for our stop this evening between Denver and Southern NM. The visitor center helped us find the perfect spot amongst their 5 campgrounds for the best night in what would be predicted difficult weather (50 mile per hour winds)! There were so many potential hikes to take, and so many beautiful views. We would have like to stay longer, but the weather was not great just due to cold & high winds.

Road construction being completed in August 2021. Access to the last two campgrounds not possible until middle to end of August. The first three campgrounds have only about 2 - 5 sites each. Cost is still just $7 or half price with senior park pass. This is a National Monument managed by BLM.
