Safeway Roadside Rest Stop. It’s the only place to stay that you will not get kicked out of in Carmel (it seems).
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Read reviews about the $48 ticket in the other location, but decided it was weight the risk as rv parks around here are $50 and up. But I stayed overnight on Sunday night along with 4 other rvs and vans, the Safeway is open 24 hours so it didn’t feel like the van stuck out. And no knocks and no ticket!
Report Check-Ingood place for a night. save, clean, quiet. several campers in cars, vans and rvs
Report Check-InIs it possible to remove all the listings that are closed? It’s such a waste of time looking at listings I can’t use. Thank you in advance.
Report Check-InGreat and about only van friendly park up for Carmel. What a gorgeous town and beach. Very quiet carpark for a peaceful nights sleep
Report Check-InStayed for one night in the parking lot. No one bothered us and we felt completely safe. There were other RVs and vehicles that camped out for the night.
Report Check-InStayed one night with zero issues . Lots of people in busses, cars , and van conversions . Safeway open 24hrs , with restrooms .
Report Check-InThis Safeway has a huge parking lot, easy for every size rig. There are some nice and dark spots under trees, as well as double long spots for bigger rigs. We spent the night and there were other RVs, sprinters and a few vans, seems like the only free place to stay on the northern edge of Big Sur.
Report Check-InStayed here for the night without issues. Found a nice spot under a large tree. Lots of other campers in the parking lot. Great place to stay and see Big Sur/Carmel-by-the-sea/Monterey area!
Report Check-InSafeway parking lot, few other vans/RVs. An incident happened and a lot of police came but never bothered us or anyone else sleeping.
Report Check-InThis is your place to park in Carmel.
Like the other reviews, I was told by a friendly officer at the other parking lot to come here. No problems through the night.
Report Check-InOriginally we tried to stay overnight at a nearby parking lot, but in the middle of a night we were asked by the police to leave. The cop was were nice and he told us to go here to Safeway parking lot.
And it was way better here. There are toilets and running water in the supermarket and in the morning you can shop for groceries and strong coffee :).
We arrived at 7pm and no other rv was there. At 9-11pm more vans were coming. We could sleep here without a problem. There’s no other place nearby so we were happy that we could stay here. We didn’t see any security guy.
Report Check-InA friendly cop sent us to the safeway parking when we were parked at the public parking in Carmel. We had no issues at the Safeway parking lot. A lot of other campers. We arrived after midnight and left before 8am.
Report Check-InStayed one night with no issues, but the next morning a security guy told us there’s no overnight parking
Report Check-InReally quiet at night. Felt super safe. We arrived at 8:30pm and left at almost 11am in the morning after a good breakfast and some shopping. Wifi is super slow though.
Report Check-InAs described. Very quiet, and a pleasant surprise to find after we had decided that Carmel was too fancy and touristy to have a spot for vagabonds like ourselves
Report Check-InPulled up around 8pm, one other rig here. Cop pulled in after us but didn’t say anything, my guess is this is their hangout spot too. Safeway open 24hrs and has a restroom, a nice plus. A little bit of noise but I would definitely stay here again.
Report Check-InStayed here for one night with our 159" Promaster, one RV and one other smaller van in the lot with us. Nice and quiet, felt safe. Quite spacious as well! Only a 10 minute drive from the gorgeous Carmel Beach, highly recommend.
Report Check-InGreat place and free for visit Monterey and Carmel. Shop 24/7 open but No noise at all in the night. Several campers that night. Police drive true bit said nothing.
Report Check-Inchecked it and there are plenty of no overnight signs plus the local sheriff's patrolling the lot whilst we shopped there so we didn't stay and went to the public lot next to the photography center of Carmel which seemed better suited.
Report Check-InStayed here one night without problems. Nobody bothered us. Some others RVs and cars overnighting in the same area. Free WiFi from Safeway, bad signal. A bit noisy in the morning.
Report Check-InWe came and parked around 10:30pm. There were a few other RVs and campervans. A few minutes after a security person came by and told us overnight parking is not allowed.
Report Check-InStayed 2 nights no problem. There are some no overnight signs but when the number of RVs outweighs the number of signs you know it's probably fine
Report Check-InAs described before, it's a plaza with many parking spots that allows people to overnight. We pulled over at 9pm and there were around 10 rigs. Super quiet at night, it felt safe.
Report Check-InFelt very safe and secure. There were a couple of other RVs and several camper vans around. No issues at all. Excellent food at the fish market next to Safeway’s and very cheap compared to town
Report Check-Inwe stayed for one night. there was one more RV and three van with people sleeping. we had no problems
Report Check-InI stayed obe night here. Very nice place to park for the night. Quite and no problem. There was also 3 rv's and another car, parking for the night as well, next to me. And also, there is a Starbucks bear by where you can find free wifi and free bathroom.
Report Check-InOvernight parking ok, safe, quiet, free wifi, others friendly travellers, grass for dogs and lot of shops, good for some nights ;)
Report Check-InThere were at least 4 other cars with people sleeping in them (3 vans - 1 car). Nobody bothered us. It got a bit noisy around 6:30am. Sounded as if containers were moved/loaded.
Report Check-Init is a sheriff who give us the adress place of parking super market
