Description

There are several companies in town that will take you on a full day trip (8:30-5) to visit the lake. 45 min boat ride, 3km nature walk through the jungle, paddle around the lake, then lunch and swimming.

We asked at two companies, both charged 120sol pp. We, also, saw another ad for a similar private tour for two for 250sol pp. We were very pleased with our tour with Giant Otter Expeditions (located in town just down from the big bridge, -12.592864, -69.175722). Tasty and massive juano (rice with chicken banana leaf wrapped tamale thing) for lunch, we saw otters, a caiman (in the faaaar distance), 3 different types of monkeys, many types of water birds, and got a lot out of the walk through the jungle- big kapok trees here!

The trail is muddy and buggy so bring hiking boots. The paddle in the afternoon is quite hot so bring lots of water and sun protection! Long shirt, long pants and a good hat would be a smart idea. The swim was great, but the water was not cold enough!

Latest Check-Ins

Prices have sure gone up. Paid $200 USD PP for a private tour for 2 days/1 night. And that was for a rustic lodge. Food was OK. Saw lots of wildlife. The sunset on the lake was wonderful. Don’t think we would have done it if it was raining or super hot. The hike is now on a raised wooden walkway, so much faster and can be done in regular footwear..

Lago sandoval is definitely the best place to see wildlife. as the others said you can find giant otters, back caiman, monkeys, birds, etc. here and all is very quiet, because there are no motorboats allowed in the lake. we spend two days there with our very good guide. he knows everything about Flora and fauna plus has a very good eye for spotting the animals. you can contact Mario on whats app: 982714454 or email: [email protected]. he speaks very good englisch.

We decided to make a two days one night tour (because you have more chances to see wildlife if you sleep in the jungle) with Jose Luis, and it was great.
140USD pp all included (transport, food, double room with bathroom in a fancy lodge)
We saw the giant otters, many caïmans, 5 types of monkeys, turtles, piranhas, a snake, and thousands of birds including macaws. Our guide speaks good english and explained us many things, we were just the two of us with him and we really enjoyed it. He can arrange any type of tour for you in the area if you contact him.
