- When headed to Cajamarca, turn left at the mountain pass, right after the sign, to a small quarry. There are multiple options here, some better protected from wind and sight.

Good site for camping, level, and the view is great when the clouds/fog is gone. We got a weak 3G. No traffic after dark. Parked up close to the tower.
Report Check-InFine place to stop for the night. Tons of flat space. Quiet, hidden from the road. It is at 3600m so it’s cold. It was windy, foggy and rained the whole time 6pm-10am. I wouldn’t want to be in a tent here. We tried to wait out the fog, but eventually had to go. 10 minutes down the road, we were below it. Could be cool if you’re lucky enough to get a view! Good break from this taxing road.
Report Check-InSolid spot to stop. Lots of room and relatively discrete. I’m sure it’s amazing if you get lucky and don’t have clouds and rain. Didn’t have wind though.
Report Check-InSame as previous comment. Great spot for wild camping. Private, quiet, and stunning views. We recommend it! Side note: it was very cloudy and foggy when we woke up (3,600 meters high in the mountains and it rained the night before) so we had to wait a bit for it to clear up so we could get back on the road.
Report Check-InNice flat spot, invisible to the road, not a soul around, and the view of a lifetime. Turn off the road at the little building and come on up. Lots of places to pick from, you could hold and overlander convention here. Best spot is by the electrical tower, perfect view and shelter from the wind. Google fi signal
Report Check-InDecent enough stopping point for the night, though wind was going all night into the morning and no view at any time due to clouds/fog.
Report Check-InThis was a great camping spot for us. We pitched our tent right next to the gravel wall and were shielded from most of the wind and completely out of sight of the road. It made for a very enjoyable nights sleep. There is clear flowing water within a few kilometers of either side of the pass.
Report Check-InOh yes, it is windy! We spend a long night with lot of wind and rain. The view is spectacular. Lot of space for camping. free.
Report Check-InStill a great camp spot. We put our tent behind some small rock walls a bit higher up for wind protection. Chilly but nice views before the fog and rain rolled in :)
Report Check-InLooked like a great option, especially if you have a bigger rig. what a stunning drive this road is! I dont know why the last poster complained... its quiet, pretty and serene up here.
Report Check-InDon't go there. The place is windy and cold. But the worst is it has been used by the roadbuilders and their heavy vehicles. It is a mess plus there is a lot of rubish there. It looks more like a carbidge can than a place to stay.
Report Check-InThe fog hides you from the road. Flat spot to rest for the night. Cold! 11763 ft.
Report Check-InGood place to camp in an area where there are otherwise not many choices for bush camps. Great views. Flat. A bit cold at night due to the high altitude (3600 meters), but it's a good alternative to sleeping in the heat down in Balsas below. Free.
Report Check-InAltitude is 3,448 meters. Amazing views! Flat and quiet but windy. Tent campers may want to head to the right, uphill to park behind large gravel piles.
