Tanzania
Nice campsite with great view, $10 pp. Lots of tourists. The guided tour to the waterfall and to the lake is $20 pp. The waterfall is a must, just be prepared for a number of river crossings, also in waist deep water. It was very windy during the night. Yaro will introduce you to the village people and invite you into the huts. He can arrange a hike up on the volcano or Lake Natron.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nice campsite on grass, awesome views. $10/pppn. Friendly staff. Cold shower. Very windy. When driving here from Arusha/Lake Manyara, be aware of the conservation fee ($35,4/pp in addition to the road usage fees)! So yes, very expensive to drive here but doing it once it is okeish. Road here okeish, too. Pretty rocky from time to time. We were on our way to Serengeti.
Report Check-InThe best site in the area. Ask for Yaro and he will be your guide for all your activities. He and his family and friends will be more than happy to help you. His brother was guarding us all night, making sure we are alright and feel safe. Yaro invited us to a Massai wedding, what happened to take place the day we arrived.
Report Check-Inhiked from Ngorongoro and arrived 10:30hrs. had booked in advance and with a tour company, so no unexpected 'surprises'. camp staff super friendly and the Masaai trinket sellers stay out of the camp.
note.
if you want to visit the hot springs north and west along the lake allow at least 1.5 hours each way. The road is very bad because of the recent rains. At this time of year, January, the flamingos are to be found in this area, but not many of them, but a lot of bird life.
don't get confused with the 'hot springs' and 'hot springs swimming', one is north, the other east.
as per a previous comment, EVERYTHING is an extra in the area here. if you want to visit the hot springs $30pp, if you want to go swimming $$20pp. you need a guide for everything, Tsh20,000/day. it all adds up!
Best of the 4 campsites at Lake Natron. Be warned! You can not stay overnight if you havent got the Conservation Area Permit from Arusha. This will cost you 10 Dollar p.p entry fee, 20 Dollar Camping fee plus 40 Dollar for the car. Add this to the 80 Dollar Community fee for a car and 2 persons and the 20 Dollar p.p to visit Lake and waterfall...it adds up, you will pay over 100 Dollar p.p. for one night here. If you arrive like us without the Permit and decide to stay you are in deep trouble. We had a 2 hour discussion and they would not let us go before we paid 160 Dollar cash, without getting a receipt! May advice..arrive early, visit Lake and Waterfall and go on to Loliondo. Road very bad even in dry season. Allow 4 hours for 100km. Good luck!
