The campsites were full, so we stayed at one of the pulloffs located nearby. The road back was dirt, but easily passable in a van. Flagstaff Lake was gorgeous. We would stay, again.
Report Check-InGorgeous, easy. There’s a more private spot with fire pits along the road before the campground. This area is well-used by hunters—wear blaze orange (in season).
Report Check-InGreat sites with fire ring and table. Sand beach on Flagstaff Lake. New bridge has been built for access.
Report Check-Inroad is closed because a bridge is out about a mile before the campground
Report Check-InClosed. Native American land. Big truck blocking road and a closed road sign
Report Check-InNice spot - this is an official campground, free and first come/first served, maintained by Maine parks dept. There are only 5 sites or so. If you can’t get on of the official sites, there are a couple two tracks just down the road with unofficial sites that work for a night or two.
Report Check-InAmazing site! There is a site on the left pulling in, all by itself (where we stayed), and then three or four on the left after that, clumped closer together. No toilet at our site, but had a picnic table and a nice metal firepit with a grill/grate, plus our own path (less than fifty feet) down to a "private" beach (the other sites have water access across the pond/river, but our side was just us!)
Absolutely beautiful, large and level site. We stayed in a van, but easily big enough for any RV or trailer (as long as this site is free, unsure of the other sites, since they were occupied we didn't go over there). The name says tentsite -- it's definitely tent friendly, but this is very much also a vehicle accessible site.
This is by far the nicest free campsite we've stayed at so far -- would highly recommend, but please leave no trace! It's also one of the cleanest sites I've seen, and I would love for it to stay that way, please!
Report Check-InIn the Bigelow Preserve. In Stratton take School Street. The name of the street change to Old Dead River Road than to West Flag Rd. The entrance of the campsite is on the left side of the road after a small lake on the right. Pit toilets, picnic table, fire pit and beach access to the lake. Quite a nice place for free.
