Description
Just a little heads up for overlanders heading out this way. A few kilometres before we got to the turn off to cabo 2 guys on a motorbike were driving along side us with a gun held up to us. We sped off and tried to get another car to pull over for us but as soon as they did they pulled the gun on them too. At that point both cars turned around and headed back out toward the town. The guys followed for a long time but couldn't keep up with us. I don't want to scare anyone away from this area but maybe it's best to do in convoy. I haven't heard about this happening to anyone else so maybe it was just a once off. The police also said if you're going to drive out this way try to do it early in the morning.
Now the got a Car with Germans, French, Brazilians. See Post below... Convoy highly recommended. Don t stop! Run them over!!

Report Check-InWe took this hard sand road at day time and getting save to Cabo de la Vela. It was a strenuous and long drive. They were kids (a few with robes) asking for money and goats/sheeps on the road but we never stopped. We doesn't saw a faked accident or somthing else. In Cabo de la Vela are a lot of locals and tourist, specially kite surfer during there season.
Report Check-InDO NOT DRIVE THIS ROAD AT NIGHT! DO NOT STOP FOR ANYTHING ON THIS ROAD. Talking to locals they gave us this warning. We came across 2 motorcycle accidents. We did not stop and no one else did. The third accident they tried to stop us by threatening throwing rocks. We hit the gas and horn and they got out of the way. This is a trick they pull to get money or much worse. When we got to Cabo Vela they said this happens a lot to tourists driving their own vehicles. If you can’t handle it better to take a tour from Santa Marta. Those guys have fast Toyota Land Cruisers and don’t stop for anything but photos.
Report Check-InI just come back from punta gallinas riding solo with my motorbike. according to the locals and the police the situation has calmed down. a couple of people have been arrested. that's what people told me at least.
