Seems to be closed at the moment.

First the soldiers told me to get the visa from Yerevan. On of them spoke a little English and asked me to wait. He then made a couple of phone calls, then told me smiling that I indeed can get a visa here and that I can pass. Unfortunately the Russian post a couple kilometres down the road wouldn’t let me pass. I had all the documents, but again I was asked to wait. One of the soldiers made a phone call and then let me know by Google translate that Nogorno-Karabakh is closed for tourists.

Simple checkpoint. They register your passport and car documents in a "big book" and you can proceed. Very friendly, took no more then 5 minutes. You are required to buy a visa in Stepanakert- this document will be checked upon leaving the country. Clean toilets too :-) Nothing to pay
