Malawi
A beautiful, shady and well-maintained campground directly at the beach.
Very clean. There is a low fence to keep the cows out. Two dogs circling around. Place is run by René and Colette, a Dutch couple, to support the daycare center with 90 children, next door, that they run as well. You are welcome there to watch the school lessons or play with the children. ZERO commercial, so you get to experience the beauty of Africa as pure as possible.
Very friendly and helpful staff. $ 9 pppn.
Bonus; very good working WiFi
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
what a beatiful campsite. there's no beach. but fine. just looking beatiful lake. I stayed 2 nights.
1k down to lake from main road.
camp 9$(15000mk) drink 1.75$(3000mk) warm shower(sun heating), fast wifi(starlink), it's bit expensive but all money goes to the school.
A bit of a rough 1 km off road to get to it, but for sure manageable. This is a foundation run by Dutch, funding a school of about 90 kids. Beautiful campsites right on Lake Malawi. Good toilets and showers (not heated yet) power and wifi. 15,000 MK to tent. No restaraunt on site.
Visits to the school are welcome.
Exactly as described below; lovely spot, good facilities, lovely people, and you contribute to a good cause. A no-brainer!
If you need any maintenance; they have a really capable welder, Louis. He is properly trained, did a great job on our landcruiser, and again, he is just starting his own business so can use the support.
Camping 9 USD, Drinks 1,75 USD
Really nice campsite (4 cars possible) with good western toilets and showers, because of rainy season the lake was very high so no beach, but in dry season they told us there is a beach
The way from the tar road to the campsite is a bit bumpy, ground clearance recommended
René and his wife are now there (for 3 to 5 years) and really helpful & friendly.
when we were there WiFi was not working, they plan to use starlink
Great foundation, you should visit the pre school
Amazing ! the campsite is basic but the ablutions are clean and you park right next to the lake. Lovely sound at night. However the best part was visiting the school and we agree with the positive postings about that below. An absolute must !
Please note there is no restaurant or bar , and the new managers a Dutch couple are ,like the school staff, really friendly. Highly recommended!
Report Check-InFloJa Foundation and the campsite are now in the capable hands of a Dutch couple René Polle en Colette van Eck. They will prosecute the FloJa Foudation and the campsite.
Report Check-InCan only agree with the others. Beautifully located. Great campsite, really decent WIFI and super friendly staff. Paying a little back by supporting the locals. Thats a no brainer
Report Check-InBest place ever!! I respectfully disagree with the person who says it’s only good to combine with border crossing. We came here for 1 night and stayed 3 and could have stayed here forever if we did not have had a month delay due to break down already.
They have this non profit foundation for children NEXT to the campsite where they teach children and provide them with healthy meals. You are allowed to watch the lessons or play with the cutest kids ever! Here you get to experience the best of Africa - it’s so pure.
The campspot itself is next to the lake and even without the big beach (due to higher water level at the moment) it’s still nice to go for a swim. The campspot has enough chill areas to relax! The absolution is well maintained. They have drinking water and electric on site.
Andre is very supportive and social and takes good care for you, same as the rest of the team.
In additional to all of the good things above, this was one of the first times of 2.5 months Africa I’ve had VERY GOOD WiFi to even participate in my work meetings without any problems!
Long story short; this camp spot has everything you could wish for!
I would recommend EVERYONE to stay here for minimal 1 night during week days (to get to meet the children!) But be prepared, you will probably end up staying longer anyways!
Report Check-InA bit rocky and narrow to get to the campsites. Owner of the place was not present : we were asked 8500 kw pppn. Nice staff. Ablutions a bit dusty but ok. Electricity works and watertap by the campsite. Best place is under the baobab tree. We hoped to buy the fresh bread mentioned in the other comments, but was not available. All in all good for 1 night before or after the border.
Report Check-InNice quiet camp with water and power and toilet area. Clean showers and toilet. $8 pppn. Directly on lake, but not really a beech area, but still nice.
Report Check-InWe are 3.6m high, and that might be the limit. We could stay underneath an old baobab tree directly at the lake with a beautiful sunrise. Great ablutions building and a lovely host, Andrea. We enjoyed talking to. It's really a lovely place and highly recommended.
Report Check-InI did not stay. If the lake is high there is no beach. There are tall trees and so much shade that I found the place gloomy.
Report Check-InAccess to the very natural property on the lake through a little used track. Pitches with baobab shadow and clean unisex ablutions. Drinks available but no restaurant. Revenue used to support an educational project. Good stay for a good purpose.
Report Check-InA beautiful setting, smallish campsite right at the lake. great ablutions, water was warm, but shiwer was great. days warm so happy to not have a hot shower.andrea baked is a bread,he is so helpful a real pleasure to meet him. money goes to the school, what a wonderful goodbye they gave us.
Report Check-InA good place to camp on the way to and from Tanzania. We were the only ones there but all was good and ablutions were really what one expects. The foundation here does schooling for about 100 kids.
Report Check-InAndre is an extremely good host. He made sure that we felt welcome and had everything we need. We had a lot of nice chats with him. The FloJa foundation does amazing work in this part of Malawi. You are allowed to visit the school and have a chat with the teachers. Be sure to make some pictures with the children as well, they will love it! We are glad we were able to contribute to this foundation by staying here for a couple of nights. Paid MWK8000 pppn.
Thank you Andre!
Report Check-InA lovely campsite right next to the lake. Lots of shady areas and hammock seats to relax in. BBQ's and seats and tables. Good ablution and washing up block (cold water) with electric points. The Flojaa foundation is inspirational and Andre is doing an amazing job, we enjoyed hearing about the work and seeing the school and meeting the community. 8000 kwa pppn.
Report Check-InAmazing place, very well thought out campsite, lovely and shady, with excellent bathrooms, extra shower for when you come off the beach, hammock chairs, electricity, wifi, braai, big table for preparing your own food. Right by the lake, but with a secluded feel to it. K8000pppn for camping.
Report Check-InAndré is a wonderful host, has a lovely campsite, and the FloJa Foundation project is truly inspiring. I enjoyed meeting the lovely people of Ngara, and the chance to cook my own dinner in the FloJa Foundation kitchen.
Report Check-InAmazing campsite and lovely owner. You invest the money in the foundation and directly in the school. Beautifull place! 8 dollar p.p.p.n camping.
Report Check-InThis camp has not just a great beach and clear ablutions.
They coke and educate here for about 100 children, where parents cant do that.
W
Absolutly worth to stay here and support the children with spending the money to this camp. Eston, the manager, toke us around to the children.
Very beautiful place, indeed. Agree with everything that's been said. Regarding big-rig friendly? We arrived here in our expedition truck that is 3,6m high, 2,4m wide and 9m long including the rear rack and we just managed to get to the camping without breaking something and without cutting branches. So it is doable but not ideal, and don't even try with a vehicle even slightly bigger than ours.
Report Check-InWe stayed 2 nights at Floja Foundation. We really enjoyed our time. Andre is very friendly and passionate about the foundation. We were invited to play some card games together with Andre and Petra (volunteer). Campsite is neat, warm showers etc. Andre can also bake fresh bread on request. We have also visited the school and some classes.
Report Check-InGreat little place next to the lake in a beautiful garden. Good abblution block, electricity at the site and sheltered tables/seating area. Andre is a great host, very welcoming and passionate about the foundation and its goals. Makes good bread on request!
Report Check-InThis place is paradise. Could live here a lifetime I think. Very well maintained, clean, green, lush, and peaceful camping. André is a very welcoming and interesting host.
Report Check-InHello, This is André (the owner). I just want to report that we are open again.
Report Check-InPrice is $8 pppn (or 6,000 kwacha). Bit much as there was no WiFi at first or freshly made bread because of power outage and no hot water in the morning. Next to no flat spaces to park, super rocky. Owner is very nice though and runs a great foundation, so after all money well spend.
Report Check-InMy and my partner arrived at FloJa more my accident as we had 2 flat tyres on our way to Tanzania.
A big thank you to André for helping us out. Lovely clean campsite with a lake view and very welcoming staff.
We definitely come back.
Thanks André for lending us your spare tyre. You definitely safes us.
The campsite is still open only the B&B is closed!
Nice small campsite on the beach with shade and clean ablution with hot shower. Andre the Dutch manger runs the Floja Foundation in Malawi and support around 90 young children. The proceeds of the campsite support the Floja Foundation.
Report Check-InVery nice place to have some rest!
The Dutch manager was really nice cause I was the only costumer. He prepared really good breakfast and dinner for the two of us. We had nice conversations and the place is beautiful. Very safe place with guards at night. You can put your tent in front of the beach and swim all day!
Very strong wifi on weekends and really clean toilets and showers!
I paid:
5000 for camping
2550 for HUGE breakfast
3500 for dinner
As described by all before, a really wonderful spot. Big thanks to Andreas who wet out of his way to make sure we could get to watch the rugby World Cup finals.
Report Check-InSuper místo, zdrželi jsme se 3 dni,Andreas super hostitel, výborný teplý chléb ráno,
Report Check-InAn amazing place! They are doing fantastic work with the daycare centre and the local community. All proceedings from the campsite goes directly to the foundation. Andre is a great host and we loved the fresh bread! The ablutions are clean and there is a lot of shade. Highly recommended!
Report Check-InGreat campsite, right on the beach, lots of shade and grassy areas to chill.
Beautiful toilet block, fresh spring water to drink.
Owner is a great guy, who is really helping the children of the village, and all money from the campsite goes to them...
Sorry to announce that the B&B house is under construction and will be renovated until June 2020. The campsite is still possible ofcourse.
Report Check-InA really great place. The bread was amazing and we loved camping right by the lake, going for swims and relaxing. The owners are super nice and friendly and the foundation is doing great work. Highly recommended.
Report Check-InSuch a pleasant campsite under a baobab tree facing lake Malawi. Price is 7USD pppn. A nice and calm atmosphere with shaded common areas, neat toilets, free wifi and very helpful sympathetic staff. I totally recommend this campsite. They also have chalets accommodation.
Report Check-Invery nice place direct to the beach with roof top tent. friendly staff. 5000pp.
Report Check-InVery nice and clean place to stay! Good for rooftop ten with lots of shade. Hammoks and seats around for relaxing. Lots of space to cook on big tables. They offer laundry with washing mashine but the girls doing this were not there. Handwash by ourselves was no problem for them!
Report Check-In3000 MK for camping. Lovely location but not well maintained. Toilets dirty, no water, nor bucket in the morning. Maybe the owner changed? I didn't see the dutch owner.
Report Check-InUntil 16 May 2019 the two Dutch owners are out (for a 5 week holiday to the Netherlands) Notwithstanding, the well trained staff members (Edmond and Collate) will welcome you with the same excellent service as your used from FloJa. Only these guys cannot prepare you the famous home made FloJa bread. Just to manage expectations... If you really like to try come back another time 😉. No worries..we' ll surely be back half May (2019) So see you soon!!!
Report Check-InUntil 16 May the Dutch directors are out to the Netherlands. The wel trained Malawian staffmembers (Edmond and Collate) will give you a warm welcome and the same excellent service as always. Only these guys are not able to provide you the famous homemade bread. therefore you need to comeback another time... 😉. We'll be surely back half May
Report Check-InVery pleasant campsite, definitely best first/last place to stay in Malawi if you are coming from or going to Tanzania.
Bathrooms and showers are impecable, better than most places in Europe.
Internet is very fast and I could use it from all over the site.
Host are very helpful and friendly, and they are managing a wonderful project for the local community.
This camp site is clean and neat. The owner Carl was superb in assistance. The ablutions 5 star for the bush, except cold water. There is 2 taps in each shower and basin both cold. This was a pity. The project the people the surrounding the location all good.
Report Check-InIt’s a very lovely place directly at the lake. We liked every minute here. Good facilities, WiFi, fresh bread and loundry service.
Paulien and André are amazing people! highly recommended!
Nice little campsite by the lake! Good ablutions block (we had a cold shower). Owners are really friendly. Good first stop in Malawi coming from the border! Bread was nice! Camping $7 pp.
Report Check-InVery nice campsite, you can pitch your tent right next to the beach and can listen to the waves all night long! well maintained and the facilities are great and clean! one of the best kept camps I have been so far. Price still 5000 to camp
Report Check-InDuring our stay in Malawi, we visited Floja twice. Pauline and Andre were extremely helpful and friendly. The funds for the camping goes to the foundation. They support young children via a creche and provide meals for them. Really a good cause and beautiful place to stay in Northern Malawi
Report Check-InGreat place and by staying here you are really helping the charitable project attached we stayed two nights and made good use of the free WiFi. Hosts are very accommodating. We had fresh bread each day 2,500mk and also had our laundry done. We also visited the project. Wet clean ablutions - a good stop over too or from the boarder crossing.
Report Check-InGreat place to stay, the owners Paulien and Andre give you a warm welcome and do so much for the children here. All the money you spend here will go to the foundation
Report Check-InProbably one of the best campsites we have stayed in. Grassy tent area overlooking the beach. They have cement lounge suites with tables that were great for relaxing and enjoying the view. A nice wooden hammock seat to chill and read. Bathroom is very clean and warm showers.
The beach is not the cleanest but the campsite is definitely worth a visit. The project they run is to school and provide daycare for orphans and other children. They also feed and clothe them... so your money is also going to a good cause.
MK5000 pppn. Free and fast WiFi included.
Report Check-InFloJa is a Dutch foundation with a daycare center near the village of Ngara. Paulien and André are amazing people. The camping and B&B which they run generates some income which they use for the daycare center. It is truly a small paradise right on the shores of Lake Malawi. The campsite is in front of the lake underneath a baobab. The ablutions are very good and clean. You can relax in the hammock or sit on the couch all day.
Report Check-InVery nice and special campsite, beautifull project and friendly owners. Clean abblutions. Homemade bread which is delicious and worth to try:)
Report Check-InSmall campsite and very well provided for. Camped on well-maintained grassy area right next to beach. Owners have put a lot of effort into making the space practical and comfortable and are exceedingly helpful. Brand new bathroom block just opened and very good.
Report Check-InLovely campsite on the lake shore- grassy area with hammock for ground tents and small area under a big baobab for roof tents. Bathroom simple but smart and tiled, Luke warm water but flush toilets- a luxury! Free WiFi (and fast!), power at campsite, really friendly staff and free wood too- $7pp,pn. Our favourite campsite based on value for money and lovely quiet bit of the lake. Great last stop before the border! Bought eggs there too.
Report Check-InReally nice place. Became ill when we got here and Andre and Paulien took great care of me. Such lovely people who do great work with the foundation. Nice spot at the lake, lots of shadow, outdoor kitchen. Very clean. Good wifi. Should definitely stop here on your way to/from Tanzania.
Report Check-InLovely place to stop and relax! The friendly Dutch owners (Andre and Pauline) make you feel at home. You can order fresh baked bread for the next morning and they have good wifi.
There doing a wonderful job with FloJa, the day care for children!!
Nice spot on lake shore. New bigger ablutions being built but space only for two average size overland vehicles, grass under trees for ground tents. Andre and Polly very welcoming and let us use their wifi by their house. Lot of locals use beach for their ablutions in the lake and beaches ether side polluted with litter.
Report Check-InSafe & nice location right next to beach. Very limited space for camping vehicles (only two stands) & not suitable for big rigs. Limited grass surface for a few tents under trees. 220V when power is not cut off and wifi near to owners´ house. At time of visit only one shower and toilet but bigger facility under construction. Untried hot tub fed by local hot water spring. Sand & rocky beach much used by locals for ablutions and as highway for cattle so not that appealing for swimming. Adjacent beaches badly polluted by plastic and other foreign matter. Nice Dutch owners much involved with pre-schooling & feeding programmes for local kids which is funded by overseas donors and the fees of visiting campers.
Report Check-InThis place is in wrong location - it is located at -10.21263, 34.09540
Report Check-InJust to add to post below - A warm welcome and fresh eggs and warm freshly baked bread available. A lovely stop-over!
Report Check-InNice stay here on beach. Better suited to roof top tents but small ground tents can be accommodated too. Plenty of shade and communal seating, swings hammocks etc. Wifi working fine with average speed. Solar shower. Clean and hassle free beach.
Report Check-InNice spot just off the beach but not very well suited for tent camping. Very little in the way of flat level ground. Better suited to overland trucks but not large rigs. When we were there none of the food that others have mentioned was available.
Report Check-InNice place, 7$pppn for camping. Cold shower, wifi didnt work at the time. Friendly staff around. Room costs 25$pppn. Rooms in the resort next to FloJa cost from 3000MKW pppn.
Report Check-InVery nice little campsite with very friendly hosts. Facilities include a small but clean ablutionblock and they are building another one. wifi was very slow when I was there but Andre assured me this was only temporary. Nice beach with lots of people working and playing. No hassles though. They have no restaurant but you can order breakfast or lunch (freshly baked bread!) or book a seat in the restaurant next door. Lots of insects around. 4 pitches under a big tree. Pauline and Andre will make sure you have a pleasant stay. Make sure to visit the day care! $7 per night. Payment in kwacha, euro or dollar.
Report Check-InTo be the only guests at a place like this would be impossible anywhere else on this planet. Wonderful sandy beach and a hammock under a tree, just perfect!
Report Check-InA quiet, clean and hospitable place in an teeny oasis of green with a lot of birds. Running safe drinking water and warm shower. Wifi available.
Space for 4 overland-trucks and two beds in a B&B. Campsite $7 pp / B&B $25 pp incl. breakfast with marvelous home made bread (if available)
All income is used for the benefit of the Nursery and Daycare Center FloJa Malawi.
Look for the orange signs next to the road.
Most enjoyable place right at the shores of Lake Malawi.

Nice place owned by Andre and Paulien, a dutch couple. You feel more than welcome here. They offer laundry service and even make fresh bread. You can visit their project: a nursery school.
Report Check-InThis is the same as Floja B&B, but these are the wrong coordinates. Look at Floja B&B for right ones. We liked the place.
Report Check-InLovely campsite right on the beach. Three pitches. Very clean ablutions, braai, power and potable water. Cold drink for very reasonable prices available, they will even bake fresh bread for you for a small fee. WIFI available. Welcoming hosts Andre and Paulien (Dutch), who run the place since 8 months. $7pppn.

Grassy, shady, well maintained place directly at the beach, but with a low fence in between. When we entered we were warned by the manager for background noise of a cotton factory nearby at night, but in practice that wasn't disturbing at all. The three dogs circled around our car much of the time. Place is run by Floor and Jan, a Duch couple, to to support the orphan care center next door that they run as well.
