Peru
Enormous farm / pine forest area. Owned by 7th Day Adventists, very popular with locals. It has a zoo, artisan markets, a trout farm where you can catch your own fish, and a bunch of other things to do (trekking etc). It's famous for its diary products, such as cheese, butter, and yogurt (which are delicious), the pastries are good too.
It's a beautiful area. Camping is possible. About 1 hour from Cajamarca. Lovely drive.
5s pp entry, includes the zoo. Catch your own trout and have someone cook it for 3s.
Avoid weekends if you don't like crowds, it was very very busy on Saturday.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Few things about the place:
-The village is a Jehova witness community : they don't sell cigarettes (and alcohol I might assume).
-No Claro connection.
-The restaurant close early (5:30ish I was told). This was for a week day.
-Couples options to lodge in town.
5km dirt road coming from kunta huasi on a new paved road. it is now 7 sols pp to enter the village. nice zoo. good restaurants. we bought cheese, youghurt, butter and bred. no movistar internet reception.
Report Check-InAmazing place, basically a religious community of 3000 people off the maps. Zoo is free and huge, even more fun with kids I’d suppose.
To find it, follow maps.me etc. to get you where the signs start. You can stay on paved roads. There are some signs (some small wooden), eventually taking you on a good dirt road with a gate (closes at 7pm) coming up very soon.
The GPS location was somewhere along the road, I changed it to where the trail to the parque zoologica starts, just follow the SIGA signs from there to walk.
They let me park somewhere overnight, please inquire. Free public bathrooms with flush toilets and water, possibly electricity.
