At this location inside of the Orapa Game park this time of year they are putting out food for the rhinos because of the dry season. So we found them here, we counted 15 a few of them with their babies! Incredible

We also had sightings of gemsbok and oryx.

It is a bit of a process getting in to the park, you need an entry permit (free) granted at the gate with your passport. Then you need to pay to enter the park (90p per person non resident and 150p per foreign car less than 5000kg) at the diamond museum which you can also pay to visit (90p per person non resident). If the museum is closed you can pay to a bank - but there is a sign post on the museum window which includes these details if it happens to be closed.

There are some picnic spots which are basic but shady. We were the only people in the park. It is fenced, very small and easy to drive around so it did have more of a zoo feel than a wild park such as Chobe or Kalahari etc but because of the size you seem guaranteed to see the Rhinos! and apparently good leopard sightings too. We enjoyed a nice quiet afternoon with the rhinos 🙂

Since 01.09.2021 you have to pay for the game drive. International 90 Pula ppn plus 150 for the vehikel. Additional 90 ppn if you will  visit the diamond Museum. You have to do the payment for the game drive in the Museum.

Really nice game park free of charge! There ain't any signs or specific routes through the park but sooo many animals. As stated before the easiest is to stay at the lodge for one night and they organise the permit in no time. With the permit you can also enter the city. We'll worth it!

If in the area, it is worth checking out the park. Lovely game (especially around the pan, when we were there) and to see rhino for free is a rarity!

The hide at the Phala centre is lovely, overlooks a waterhole.

As stated in the previous comment, gate to the park is located at the airport.

Just amazing this game reserve. You can enter for free, but you do need a permit to get in Orapa. This needs to be provided by someone from the area. Makumutu campsite can arrange this for you within some hours.

The game reserve has so many animals including rhinos. Within an hour we saw at least 11 and also jackals, zebras, giraffes, antilopes, and so much more. I really recommend to go here as this park is just amazing!

If you stay in the nearby Makumutu Safari Lodge they will organise the permit within some hours. The gate into the park ist at the airport (not before).
There is a "guarantee" to see rhinos (we saw 14!). The main route around the pan is easy to drive (also for trucks).

This reserve is owned and operated by 'deveers'diamond company whom also of course operate the huge mine here.
You MUST obtain a permit to enter either the park or for that matter the actual town of Orapa.
permit must be obtained 48 (minimum) in advance and must be for a specific day.
