We came here at about 4pm and only got number 903 and 904. We came back at 9pm as told and then had to wait until just before midnight to get our tickets. Only circuit available was number 3 but luckily with the mountain. We did not want to do that at dirst but in the end it was definitely the best choice we could have made (see also Machu Picchu point on iOverlander). Be aware, that they told us at 11:50pm, that they coul not sell anymore tickets after midnight and that everyone should come back the next day to get a new number. Luckily we were one of the last ones to get tickets, but you definitely have to be flexible if you want to get the tickets here (although i think we were there on a really busy day because the next day there was nobady at 7pm).

Pretty smooth. Arrived by train. opposite corner of the square where you enter from the train is where you first get your ,'queue' ticket. pretty quick. Need your passports , given time to return, 4pm for us. at 4pm a gentleman started calling the numbers and fortunately we were in the first 30 or so. Guided into the building, chairs to sit on. we were able to get the ticket times we wanted and were done within 25mins. cost 152 sols per person. very appreciative of correct change. Outside the building is a map of the 4 routes. very helpful to make your decision before you enter.

Arrived at 8:15 and received numbers 98 and 99 with a 15:00 check in time to select circuit and purchase tickets.
Need passports to obtain your initial number and to buy the tickets.
Seemed like there were heaps of tickets available for all the time options.
Do arrive at you allotted time - it appears you miss your slot if they pass your number when the numbers are called out.

Actual process:
1) go here as early as possible with your passport. They give you a paper with a number.
2) come again at around 3pm (see time on the paper, depends how many persons have their turn before you
3) they call your number and you go to the counter to buy available option

Only works for the following day. My information is, that you cannot buy tickets for the same day

You have two options to get tickets in Aguas Calientes:
1. Ticket the next day: go to the comisario and register with a copy of your passport. You will get a group number and on the next day you go to the office of the ministry of culture really early (4:30 I think?) and they call your group number and then let you in to buy your ticket. I believe most circuits if not all are available that way (we didn’t do this).
2. For the same day (that’s what we did): go straight to the line in front of the cultural ministry where they call the group numbers for the people who registered the previous day. Wait until they are done and after a bit (around 7:15 for us) they start letting people in to buy whatever tickets are left. For us that was only circuit 3 and circuit 4 (which includes huayna picchu). It was an unorganized group of people pushing to get ahead and it took a while, but eventually we were sent in to buy our tickets and we were done at 8:00am. We then bought our bus tickets and went straight up because our circuit window started at 9.

While you can now buy tickets here in the pueblo again, please note it is extremely unreliable and still undergoing many post-pandemic transitions. For instance, info I got from other overlanders mere weeks or 1 month previously had changed from the current process. If you come here for a lst minute ticket, expect to wait up 3hours -3days, and you won’t get to choose when you enter the ruins. But, since online books out so far in advance in busy season, May be your only option! Definitely book online if you can, don’t make my mistake.

Price still the same. Recommend is to book day in advance. Otherwise there are maybe no “sunlight” tickets available.

PLEASE NOTE: They don’t accept the international student card anymore. The want your’s from the university. For now. So bring them together and play it save.

PLEASE NOTE 2: Cash only... middle age.

Can recommend booking in advance if at all possible. I arrived here at 9am this morning and had to wait in a long queue until they started selling tickets at 10am. Finally got my tickets at 10:25am. Also, morning slots were all booked out for the next week..... but afternoon slots were still available for the same day. If you want a morning slot, I'd advise booking in advance. Price still 152 soles (cash only) for foreigners.

Absolutely no need to prebook the Machu Picchu only tickets online. You can buy for the same day or any day. They always have abundant tickets. You need some sort of identification. (Passport)
