Description

Already entered as an informal campsite however now entering as a hotel for those who want more info about hotel stay (those on motorbikes rather than vans/rigs maybe).
We arrived after dark and a local led us to this place. There are other hostel type places but we were too tired to look around. We paid 80000 COP for a double room. The showers are hot and the room was big and quiet. There is also a TV. Breakfast is 7000COP pp. There is a parking space for motorbikes around the side out of view, so the bikes are nice and safe. They also have a large, clean pool, although quite cold. There are some shops nearby and a small restaurant. The hotel is about 100m up from the archeological park entrance. The park is 25000 cop pp to enter and once you pay you can spend as long as you like exploring (we took 2 days). The tombs and views are amazing and well worth it, but be prepared for some muddy paths and a lot of hills! Enjoy.

Our experience was just about opposite than those of the recent/previous entries. Big grassy camping spot that you share with a couple of horses and some hens/roosters that are not let out until later in the morning! So no crowing early in the morning. No partying or loud music. Pool was just beeing cleaned, so not usable while we were there. Use the nice toilets in the restaurant area, not the ones down by the pool. Stayed for 5 nights.

Price is now 96K for a room with queen bed. We were tired and arrived late, so didn’t compare. Big parking lot and no height restriction. The bed is quite hard, rooms a bit hot and stuffy during the day, and the wifi doesn’t reach past the lobby. Quite overpriced for Colombia, but if you got the $$$ I guess it’s worth it.

Update to previous entry. After a quiet first night, had a HUGE party the next day. 3 Chiva busses from the town of Páez showed up around noon for the birthday of the mayor of Páez. We had been hiking all day and looking forward to good nights sleep. Despite the town having no electricity, they pumped the music at full volume. We thought it was going to end at dark, but they had other plans. They put a huge electric generator in the lobby and partied on until past 2 a.m. , or so we heard from the only other hotel guest. We left around 10 and slept in a hospedaje driveway. We returned the next morning to demand a refund. They of course refused. This was a Wednesday night…lesson learned. Ask if there’s a party planned before getting a room. This place has obviously switched to a discotheque with the absence of tourists coming into town. You’ve been warned..
