Update Jan. 2021: Overnight camping behind the second gate is no longer allowed.
A large, paved parking lot with benches, a few picnic areas (with/without BBQs), and flush toilets. We arrived to the mirador at ~7pm. While enjoying the sunset over the beautiful canyon and tall waterfall (with very little water), the guard arrived saying the mirador was closing. I asked if we could camp in the parking lot overnight to which he quickly agreed, adding that no one would bother us since the gate at the bottom of the road would be locked until 8am the next morning. We had the mirador to ourselves all night and all morning until a few people arrived after 8am. You can hike to the bottom on the falls from there. It was an amazing spot, secure, the flush toilets were open all night, and it was free (no entry charge and no charge to stay overnight).
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
As some previous comments you are not allowed to stay overnight (theoretically) the official park guardian ask for 200 pesos and he will lock us in(gate close at 7.00 pm and open 8.00 am) we decide to pass and go to the OXO gas station and sleep there. Earlier we ask to some cleaning people if we could stay and they say yes….
Report Check-InWe spent one night here. I went up to the man who was in charge to ask if we could stay the night and he asked us to pay 100 pesos, for his gasoline and cleaning.
Report Check-InAgree with ‘lettinglifehappen’! Amazing spot, free, flushing toilets, lady at the trinket stand said no problem to camp here. Gate does close at 19:30 this time of year, so can’t leave before 8am. Falls were full of water and gorgeous this visit.
Report Check-InThey invited us to stay for the night in the parking lot. Everybody was very friendly. Our dog was officially not allowed but we were able to do the short walk to the mirador after closing hours with her. We weren't asked to pay an entrance fee anywhere.
Report Check-InThe mirador is still open but not longer for camping. Just use the spots that are marked here bevor the second gate.
Report Check-Ineverything shut up, gate was open. the water has been diverted to the new copoer mine.
so unless it rains this year it will remain a cliff rather than a tourist attraction of a cascade.even the water to the toilet was turned off 🤣
Came here to spend the night in the parking lot in front of the mirador but the ranger came to tell us it's no longer possible to camp.
We moved outside of the fence.
Wy not big rigs?
we are a little tired of unfounded opinions. There are many sites documented as "no big rigs" that do not present problems.
Please, give your opinion with rigor and knowledge.
We arrived here when the gates were being opened at 8am and hiked to the top and the bottom of the falls. It was incredible! Highly recommend. There is no entry fee, or overnight parking fee. We stayed here 1 night. The parking lot is surrounded by beautiful views. There are flush toilets and running water. Telcel phone service cuts in and out. Felt safe.
Report Check-InOvernight parking at the parking lot of Cascada de Bassaseachic whiche are really great. The gate is locked from 5 pm to 8 am. The caretaker is a really nice guy who did not ask for money but told us not to make a fire.
Report Check-InParking lot for Basaseachi falls viewpoint across from the falls. There is a MXN$72 per person fee for “use”. We asked permission to camp here in our truck and it was granted. The caretaker closed the gate around 17:30 and said “no going in and out tonight” which, of course, we were fine with. He also said if we had any problems come and get him and he described where he would be sleeping down the hill. After I quizzed him on what kind of problems, he was adamant that we would have no problems. Indeed we had a quiet night with no problems and a wonderful hike the next day. There are flush toilets here. @FloodExploration
Report Check-InEverything as mentioned before, a great place to stay and an even better hike down to the waterfall. We were approached by a man telling us that we needed to pay to park in the lot. He insisted that the park was no longer free and he was the “keeper” of the park so we needed to pay him. He clearly was a local trying to make money off of tourists. We refused to pay him and that was the end of it. He tried one more time before we left and again we refused.
Report Check-InEverything is good described. Quiet night, beautiful star view. The hike down to the waterfalls are well made with many viewpoints. Highly recommended!
Report Check-InAwesome place! Just as described.
at sunset (5:30p) the park ranger came and informed us that he will close the gate.
I think you could pitch a tent here too.
As described: a very good and safe place to spend the night. Beautiful views and trails!
Report Check-Inbeautiful views from the lookout and watch tower. at 8pm the ranger came to let us know it would close until 8am and we couldn't make a fire.
the lady from the shop asked us to keep an eye on her shop, which we did. we were rewarded with an apple in the morning.
Yes, the "let life happeners" are right. We were very welcome to spend the night. Great spot! Even the police in one of the villages pointed us this spot for overnighting.
Report Check-InJust as described, great spot. Parking lot with flushed toilets. Hikes to the cascade start from here. The guard told us no problem to overnight park and that he was closing the gates behind us. A great group of ladies have their souvenir shops up here and they are very friendly. Great spot!!! And free!
