Very scenic rest stop 30 minutes outside Port aux basques. Can get quite windy some days.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Just as described in earlier posts. We stopped for lunch and wind was blowing around 50kmh.
Report Check-InAbsolutely gorgeous place to stop.
Be mindful of the winds here as they can blow over a fully loaded tractor trailer, hence the name Wreckhouse.
If you come from the ferry there is a sign with Wreckhouse wind speed showing, if you are coming from the opposite way I recommend downloading NL511 app which has weather and road reports, including Wreckhouse wind warnings.
Decent cell/data here.
a very large asphalt paved area suitable for many rigs of all sizes. traffic is minimal after 9:30 pm. no services, not even a garbage can, but a great place to park before or after the ferry.
Report Check-Insuper scenic rest stop! views of table mountains and ocean. flat and lots of room
Report Check-Ingreat rest area, beautiful sunset. A real treat to stop at after the ride to the Island
Report Check-InThe name of this location is Wreckhouse Pond. There is a trail starting from the SW corner of the parking lot that will lead you through a large culvert under the highway. From there you can walk to the cliff overlooking the shore. There is also a lesser used trail leading to a pond. We stayed here on 30 August after arriving on the ferry. That evening was very windy and raining. The wind was buffeting the camper but otherwise it was quiet with virtually no traffic at night. Beautiful and sunny when we arrived this evening. Spectacular sunset over the ocean. Almost no wind this evening. The parking lot is paved and any size rig can park here. Sadly, we are leaving Newfoundland on the 11:45am ferry tomorrow. Only 20km from here to the ferry terminal in Port aux Basques.
Report Check-InExcellent stop off Trans Canada Highway. No services, fits all vehicles and can be noisy until late at night.
Report Check-InA wonderful stay here, close to ferry terminal, easy access for larger vehicles and the views are amazing. It is right on the road but it gets very quiet after sunset.
Report Check-InNice large paved lot set back from the highway. Room for any sized rig. A good place to stop before or after the ferry. Beautiful view of the ocean and table mountains.
Report Check-Infor the first night, when you come from the ferry, it is ok.
beside the highway, because this reason it is noisily....
Large paved lot. Next to highway #1 east
Mostly level nice view of the ocean great sunset spot.
