Description

The owner Alejandro and his wife opened their finca "San Luis". They have a cacao plantation and he will give you a tour and explain you the whole process from bean to chocolate. You can camp at the finca with stunning views of the mountains. Just before you enter the town of San Pablo de Borbur ( coming from Villa de Lleyva) you turn right to an offroad ( There's a blue sign with a white leaf). You follow this road for 6 km and then you are at Y junction. The left is " paved" and you take this road and keep right. After 2 km you'll see on your right hand finca San Luis.
You can contact Alejandro (speaks also fluent english!) on his mobile 315 355 71 70
If you're taking this road we really recommend to stay here!!!

At N05.65498 W074.06776 is the point where you can turn on to a gravelroad. At N05.69826 W074.05265 you are at the right place.
The couple is incredibly nice and showed us all about chocolate. We camped in the garden with an incredible views.

If the gate is closed, just walk up to the house and ring the bell.

Really great to visit. A really nice and wuthentic cacao tour/explenation of all the process from the tree to the chocolate.
They are doing a nice job!

But unfortunately really not for big rigs. Alejandro would say 6m is no problem, if you are longer it's at some places a difficult turn on the road. But the road was nice to drive, in good conditions. And really great views!

We loved Finca San Luis! The 8km road to the finca is beautiful and easy in a 2WD. Alejandro and Vivian greeted us and couldn’t be more hospitable - so friendly and helpful. The place has amazing views over the mountains, but what made it even better was the cocoa tour. I’d highly recommend buying the chocolate afterwards - the 85% is some of the best chocolate we’ve ever had!

A faire !!

Very nice place and very friendly hosts. Camped for a night and had a cacao tour in the morning. Very interesting hands-on tour about cacao plants and making god’s drink from it.

The place is really nice. We really enjoyed the cacao Tour. Alejandro and Vivian super friendly and helpfull. They speak english. Price of the Cacao Tour was 50k, we would it was worth the money. you develop the whole process from the cacao tree until producing your own chocolate Mass. don't Trust Google Maps, drive the ruta 60 until San Pablo der borbur. General Information about the ruta 60: from chiquinquira to Puerto boyaca it's 186km. the first 105km are almost completly paved and in good condition. then about 60km of rough gravel. the Last 20km it's gravel and pavement with lot of potholes. From Finca San Luis to Puerto Boyaca it will take 6 - 7h with a normal campervan. Other vehicles should be faster....

What a special place up in the mountains! We were welcomed by one of the workers who showed us everything and told us the owners are on holidays. However, we have been in contact with them via Whatsapp beforehand and afterwards. The guy working on the finca did the cacao tour with us the next day (approx. 2 1/2h), which we really enjoyed. We shared the home just with the two dogs (which are the most quiet and relaxing dogs we've met so far) and the two parrots (and mosquitos...). The mirador is amazing, we loved this peaceful place.

Important: don´t trust google maps. We arrived in the dark at the other side of the canyon and google told us to walk the last 5 km through the canyon. Haha, very funny google. Just put San Pablo de Borbur in you navigation, from there you find signs pointing the way to the finca

Vivien and Alejandro are excellent hosts. The place to camp is very beautiful with an extra viewpoint designed to chill. The bathroom and surroundings are nice and clean with hot water in the shower.
The cacao tour offered is very good and definitely much better than the usual 1 hour tours. Now it is also possible to buy delicious chocolate.
If you like, it is also possible to do a tour to one of the emerald mines close by. This is definitely not the typical tourist tour and very interesting. If you like, you can also get a small affordable emerald afterwards.

We highly recommend this place and definitely will come back in case we visit Colombia again.

Thanks for everything!

We are back and finally had time to explore this awesom place. We had a such a great time with Alejandro and Vivien and Toni y Canela. They working vorking hard to get their dream come thru and you can feel it any minute of your stay. Just a little update. Camping is now 20mil per car and Cacao tour is 25mil pp. We enjoyed the cacao tour a lot .... if you are around worth time to visit. If you travel with big rigg tou can stay in the town where is great place with swimming pool and very nice owner.

We love it here and we will come back. very nice place to relax and do a few tour around.

This has been by far the nicest place we have stayed at in Colombia. The tour of the cocoa farm (which they run every day except Sunday) is fantastic and gives you the opportunity to make chocolate yourself. But even on a Sunday it is a great place to unwind and sit on the deck and read or just go for very nice walks. You can also do a tour of the local emerald mine down the road (around 1h15min walk) which we did on a Sunday. The mine asked for 20,000 COP pP. The workers take you down into the shafts where they are working. Perhaps not the safest tour but you do get a helmet and wellies.

Very nice place. Basic faciliies, but clean and nice outdoorshower.
Owners are incredibly friendly and helpful. They have an incredible terrace with a stunning view over the two special mountains in the area. Let Vivien tell you the legend about it. Do not miss the cacao tour. We made a very good one already in Belize, but this tour is really worth the money. Alejandro will explain everything about the finca and the plants while Vivien will introduce to you the further secrets of good cacao making through all steps and give you a really good tasting experience. Tour last almost 4hours or even more. As space is limited, advisible to contact them ahead. Moreover, they can offer you a "mini spa" - which means they can arrange for your mani/pedi on site, if you wish so.
We would always stay again.

This is one of those places where you say to yourself...." how did someone find this place".
Couple of updates, the " paved road" mentioned is just a 20 meter section of concrete up a steep section. we don't believe its a Y section, the right is simply a short road to a property. Also the mention of "stay right" , not sure why......just stick on the road. The coordinates given are correct so input them. Some great views along the way.

Relaxed place, nice people. You should be fine with animals. Two Macaws who can make a lot of noise. Four dogs who leave their hairs and smell nearly everywhere around. A cat and so on. If you are not sensible about that you should definitely go there. Camping 15.000 & simple room with breakfast 30.000. Bring food and water with you. Insect repellent also. Connection just with Claro over there. No wifi. But awesome mirador ;)

We can just confirm what others before wrote. A fantastic place to spend a couple of days. The road to get there is spectacular as are the views from the finca. The chocolate experience is great. You’ll learn a lot about the plantation and the processing of chocolate. It is a very quite place. There is not so much space for big rigs.

A very nice place to spend some nights here in really great landscape. Vivian and Alejandro are very kind hosts. They guided us four hours! through the cacao-plantation and demonstrated us the whole procedure from the bean to the chocolate. It was worth every minute.
At last they invited us for breakfast. A great hospitality with nice guys.
Highly recommended.

An amazing place to stay. 15,000 to camp in a wonderful secluded area of Colombia. Google maps does not have the road to the farm listed, but getting there was not difficult at all, it was a beautiful ride. The hosts are such good people, and Alejandro speaks perfect English. He showed us his farm in detail, and we got hands on with the cocoa process. An awesome stop, highly recommended.

The farm has a perfect view of one of Colombia's most incredible natural spectacles: the jagged peaks of Funa and Tena. Ask Alejandro to tell you the indigenous legend about these towering monoliths, and you also get a picture perfect drive by as you head to the farm along a cliff-side road.

This area is so green and lush, it almost seems fateful that it is emerald mining country, and supposedly the mountains are full of them. But Alejandra doesn't want to mine through the mountains on his land searching for emeralds. Instead he wants to sustainably preserve the virgin land in its natural state by growing organic cacao, a plant that is native to the region, and he employs the local people as farm hands. It's a really inspirational endeavor, one that brings prosperity to the local community while bringing chocolate to this world. Couldn't be better.

This Cacao-Finca is one of the nicest places we have stayed. The owners Alejandro and Vivian welcome all their guest very warm and give the possibility to learn all about cacao - the offer a walk around the plantation and you can make your own cacao. You can use toilett and shower. They love animals and you can find three dogs, a cat, two parrots and chicken for fesh eggs around. Many thanks to them for a wonderful stay and a great time with them. Also the prices a very moderate: 15000/night/car and 20000pp for the tour. This place is highly recommanded!!!!!

we stayed at this lovely place for 2 nights. Alejandro and Vivien are very friendly and helpful hosts and they gave us a wonderful cacao-experience. Facilities are as written and prices too. Thanks to Alejandro and Vivien - we had two wonderful days with you we will never forget. This place is highly recommended!!!!!!

We had an amazing time here at Finca San Louis. Alejandro and Vivian are amazing hosts, and their property has an amazing view. We were greeted with fresh juice, and invited for breakfast on the second day. Alejandro gave us a tour of the finca, and explained not only the process of a cacao farm but their own story of starting it as well. We helped in some of the processing and at the end roasted, grinded and made our own cacao bars to take with us. They ask 15k COP for camping, and 20k COP pp for the cacao roasting experience. The directions are accurate, but a good idea to what’s app or phone first. This is one of the best places we have stayed, highly recommended.

This place is magic! I had written a review when I stayed a while back and checked back to get Alejandros phone # and see it never posted. So I'll post it again.
I came here on a Sunday and they were out of town, one of the workers let me in and I set up camp in their back yard. When they arrived home they were delighted to have a guest, phew!
I spent several days being shown all about the Cocoa and the area. The cook made me breakfast and coffee and so on, AMAZING!
The have big plans for the area, with some guest houses in the works, massive cocoa productions and the Emerald mine up the road had just built a swiming pool and bar with little guest rooms. They even took me for a tour in the mineshaft! Hahaha, seriously it was amazing.
No wifi yet, the views are stunning, room for tents and overland vehicles, great shower and wounderful hosts. Likely best to WhatsApp them first.
Even in the little town before hand there is a massive pool and waterslides. It's a great area. Bring your own supplies from the town, nothing for sale in the countryside.
