Perfect place to camp in the Middle of Forest and close of the river. No shadow but à small plateform to put table and chairs. Very quiet place for overnight. We loved !
To reach the place from Zomba village, turn right few meter after the lac. There is a small sign with "Trail". A bit narrow track but don't need 4WD. Probably not good for big rigs because to small to reverse !
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Almost perfect.
After one night official people from Southern Water Region thing came by and explained it is illegal to camp here as the river is inside a protected area.
They first asked us to leave and finally agreed to fine us 5.000 kwa ha so that we stay. They issued a proper receipt.
If you really want to enjoy this place, you better go at the very end of the road, arrive by night when no one can see you, and make absolutely no noise. Otherwise you can also be fined.
And of course, respect the place as it is protected area.
Report Check-InSweet little spot. In Sep as mentioned there are loggers. They start about 630-7 AM. None in the evening. Try to not let the fruit sellers see you entering this place…on our second night 5 of them followed us in and tried to sell us fruits. All friendly and left when we said no though. 2 bar Airtel LTE.
Water looks clear but used for washing not sure about drinking
Report Check-InSmall correction :
the forest is being chopped down by parts every year, between August and October.
so you may avoid this time if you want a quiet environment.
The place is nice to overnight, close to the stream.
Flat and shielded from wind.
But... when arrived at night, a lot of people where on the tar road loading planks onto trucks and screaming like crazy!
we felt a bit uncomfortable but, at the end were not bothered.
In the morning, with the bird songs, we've got also chainsaw noise...
we don't know if the forest massacre going on was only chopping down invasive trees (pines and eucalyptus) or... a coming end for the forest...
Report Check-InGreat spot, short (cut) grassy area at the end of a (deadend) track leading to a small river gauging weir. Completely quiet at night (other than the sounds of the stream) and hidden from the very quiet tar road.
perfect spot!
Report Check-InNice place and perfect for a nice night. Boys came but after a while they left.
Report Check-InWe thought this was a very nice spot! Totally hidden from the road, cool jungly vibe. It’s a dead end (for cars) so no though traffic. A few boys selling vegetables came down and stared at us for a while but they were pretty friendly and didn’t come back. No one passed by at night but one other car parked there to start a walk the next day.
