Description

A couple dozen primitive camp sites on the lake shore. Popular boat launch for locals. The building by the boat ramp has free hot showers and restrooms. Pretty area to spend a night

Latest Check-Ins

Free camping in a nice wooded area, and campsites are scattered throughout the area. There are bathrooms with showers by the boat launch area. The showers had good water pressure but did not seem to have hot water, only cold water. The women's bathroom was in disrepair. The handicap stall has the door removed. Lights were not working and so the door from the outside was propped open. There is another regular stall that was fine. Quiet night. No T-Mobile signal. Most of the spots if not all were taken by nightfall. This is the weekend before the eclipse.

Maybe it's just the time of year, but I couldn't find much to like about this one....

pros:
it was free & quiet - 2 other campers that looked long-term & a few locals putting in their boats

cons:
women's restroom was locked (men's appeared to be proped open)
showers didn't work
lake was extremely low so rather than lakeside camping, it was camping next to a mud pit
while there were a lot of stone fire rings, they were very sporadically placed & close together with no real definition between sites
roads around the sites have big ruts in areas & several spots of standing water to drive through
Also, the coordinates take you right at the entrance sign, where there are maybe 3 spots and low hanging trees (got some new pinstripes on the van)
If you go left at the sign instead, this takes you to the area with many sites, the showers, etc.
I didn't stay long & would recommend Buckville Rec. up the road instead

absolutely love it here! first stayed here about a year and a half ago and had the best time swimming in the river. had the whole place to ourselves this time on a Wednesday and Thursday night. for full time van dwellers like us, it is so great finding little gems like this. free with bathrooms, hot showers, trash bins and a beautiful river to swim in. one of my favorite places to camp.

Great place to stay. Toilets where closed. Warm water for swimming

Very nice area with great views of the lake. Had about 10 camping spots with picnic tables. Would have stayed more than 1 night if I could. I imagine it gets busy on weekends, especially since there is a swimming area. The lake was high during my visit. Clean sites and an overall great spot.

Pretty lakeside primitive camping spots...probably around 10 nice spaces, only 2 other people there although the boat launch was fairly busy. Nice swimming or fishing. Free hot showers, bathrooms, trash cans, fire rings...clean bathrooms and showers although the sites were a little trashy. Cool at night, lots of flies during the day. Quiet once all the locals go home.
