Mauritania
Safe and protected place within the walls of the " Gendarmerie Nationale " of Chami, not far from the main road.
Closed at night. Plenty of place.
After a late border crossing, we asked at the police border where we
can stop, and they indicated this place.
On arrival, they asked for a " fiche ", as usual since Sahara.
Lot of shops and restaurants around, and a petrol station as well.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Very friendly, feels super safe inside the walls of this Brigade. Spoke French, no English.
Report Check-InWe slept here in two occasions. People are nice, including "the chief". according to Chami's citizens, the city is safe. However, the gendarmerie is really quite. Suitable also for big caravans, 4x4 is not necessary.
Report Check-InI camped here with my bicycle. Nice people and quiet place.
Report Check-InI politely asked and it was no problem to park inside the walls. Was asked for a fiche. A good spot to stop if you can't make it to the capital before dark. I didn't use any facilities.
