Description

Boondocking sites along Palm Canyon Road in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Lots of flat places, easy access, beautiful scenery. Free. Only 20-30 minutes from Quartzsite and good for 2WD and large RV's. Make sure to hike the 1 mile trail to Palm Canyon, go mid-day for the best sunlight to see the palms and climb up and around them. Great place!

Beautiful, quiet area with lots of flat sites. We camped near a cinder cone 1-2 miles before the end of the road (4-5 miles in). Palm Canyon Road road is bumpy gravel but completely passable in our 2WD Ram Promaster van. Fantastic sunrise and sunset. At sunrise, the light comes through the mountains in narrow bands- breathtaking! Poor Verizon signal at campsite but better closer to the main road.

GPS location is the trail head parking lot. Along the road - lots of spaces available on this date. No shelter from the sun or wind. Great views of the Kofa Mtns.

Nice short hike to the Palms.

NPR at 88.9.

A little washboard until you pass the Kora sign then about 20 or so places 50’ off the road Palm Canyon. So so internet but a great hike up through the canyon.
Very quiet and beautiful sunsets

We were lucky to get a site with a perfect view of Signal Mountain. The road wasn't too bad getting in, you didn't need 4wd. We had to do a little bit of leveling but not bad at all! There were fire pits with rocks around. Loved our stay and definitely do the hike to see the Palms!

Stayed one night. Beautiful views of the canyon, 1-2 bars Verizon LTE, spotty and not enough to work off a hotspot, though, so sadly had to leave. Quiet, peaceful. Pretty right off the gravel road but not much action on a daytime morning. Careful of the teddy bear cactus while driving in and with dogs, lots of small volunteers on the ground.

We didn’t stay for the night but there was a lot of pullout on the way there. You can hike to the palm trees but you can also hike up the canyon in the wash. It’s worth it. Incredible view from up there. It may take few hours to get there. Many cairns on the way up.

Plenty of flat spots with fire pits to choose from. Everyone is spread out and the views are great. Go check out the palm trees in the canyon!

Great spot at the trailhead to palm canyon hike.
Room enough for any rig with decent Verizon service. Spent two nights here with little hiking traffic.

Amazing. Drive as far up to the canyon as you can for amazing sunset views and camping. Very quiet, although I was here during the week. Spotty service, but it’s there. Lots of coyotes at night, beautiful to listen to. Many fire pits. Please pack out what you bring in. Leave this place beautiful.

1/2 mile west of Trailhead. Rocky, flat surface next to road and Arroyo. Lots of Teddy bear cholla near here. Careful with the pups.

Report Check-In

As described. Many more flat places the lower down you go. Palm trees are hard to find. Once you head up the canyon, look up the cracks on your left high.

Report Check-In

Many large level open spots all the way down the road to the trailhead. Toad is 2wd accessible. Many spots have fire rings, limit to 10 day stay. Pack it in, pack it out. Beautiful views, plants and animals. Verizon LTE service.

Wonderful free desert camping. Lots of places to camp. Good cell coverage at some spots. Hiking available. 14 day maximum. Good gravel road.
