Latest Check-Ins

Absolutely loved staying here. So peaceful by the stream with horses grazing. No facilities (if you’re using the restroom outside, try to go as far away from the stream as you can). The stars and Milky Way at night were incredible. An elderly shepherd said hi in the morning as we were leaving. Totally peaceful.

Report Check-In

Still as described. We came arround 5:30, noone arround, building locked. No facilities, only outside sink with running water.
Shepherd on a horse passed by, said it is ok to stay.
Very quite.

Report Check-In

The office was empty so we just parked and stayed for one night. Steps away from the river. The little traffic noise stops after 10pm.

Update for road conditions (oct 2019) : the road 110 between Catac and Chavin is now entirely paved with perfect asphalte ! Maps.me is not updated and still shows unpaved road. Very nice road to drive on !

Report Check-In

We spend two quiet nights at this ranger station (open 8-17h) and made a tracking (laguna) and biking (tunnel) trip. No entrance fee at this side of the parc. At the left of the yellowish building is a basin with potable water. The flush toilette is in a green outhouse at the other side of the road.

Road update: beautiful perfect pavement on both sides of the tunnel. Crews actively out patching the occasional pothole. Amazing views and such a great drive on the new road!

Report Check-In

the Road from the tunnel to Chawin is in a good condition, not always Asphalt, but good.

Report Check-In

We just did it and it's fine. Good condition gravel road !
There is even few asphalt part ("few").

Report Check-In

If you plan to go to Chavin: the road until the Tunnel is excellent but on the other side it gets bad. Seems like the road once was fully paved but today it's completely damaged, except a few tiny parts. The whole way to Huanuco is pretty bad (no chance to drive faster than 45 km/h max).

Report Check-In

Free for the night. Quiet except for a half dozen trucks or so passing busses (no air brakes!). Put toilets available. Nice view of the valley in the morning.
