Good staying for the night, quiet no infrastructure for free 1.5 km downstream from the junction towards Paranal Observatory (EOS)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Continuez un peu la route quand vous venez d’antofagasta puis sur votre droite il y a une sortie qui mène au spot. En retrait de la route et accesible en van.
Report Check-InLooks like there used to be a track into the hills, but it washed away. Nobody around, so we didn’t mind being visible from the road. Movistar 3G reception
Report Check-InPerfect place before jumping into Antofagasta (where it might be difficult to find a place for the night outside)...
The side of the road might seem sandy, but it is not, no risk to get stuck :)
Report Check-InQuiet?? No! the Rute 5 is so nearby, you always hear cars and trucks. But for an night with no other options it is OK. The entrance-road is blocked after 100 meters, you can't cross the river anymore. So take an other entrabve road about 300 meters further, than drive back through the river. You need 4x4 absolutely!
Report Check-Indidn't make it quite to that point because it was too dark.stayed overnight on kind of a side road.great sky.very little noise from traffic and open desert,so no place to hide ;-)
Report Check-InGood spot. I actually rode my bike through the dry river and found a comfortable place for the night.
