Drive this canyon!! The road is great for any vehicle (and paved along the lake). But the views are spectacular- the geologist in you will be awed. So many types of rocks and formations.
Anyway- we spent the night here. Alone. Silent. No services. No cell signal. There are also some spots just north of here with less trash. Plenty of options.

Report Check-In

We spent one night here, quiet place and nice view.

We spent one night here. There is a sign "Area de descanso" (rest area) so no restrictions on spending a night here. We were alone and the river is just down below. Nice spot, and one of the few flat spots to stay along the road. Can accommodate several vehicles. No facilities other than a rustic playground and garbage bins.

We spent 1 night at the rest area. We were alone and was very quiet.

Pasamos una noche en el Área de descanso. Estábamos solos así que estuvo muy tranquila. No hay servicios de ningún tipo, solo algunos juego para niños y fogones.

Nice place to stay over night. Quiet and peaceful.

Nice place. Water might not always be available. It’s pretty low beginning of June (see pic)

Peaceful place in the middle of the canyons. No facilities but very quiet.
We pitch the tent under a beautiful pepper tree (?) which hide us from the road.
Fire pits and trash bin.
Some trash around but not that much.
Cats during the night looking for the rest of your asado:)

very big, but abandoned picnic area where we stayed overnight. Great surrounding und well worth to do the detour trough this canyon. No problem to drive this gravel road even with a big rig, not much traffic. Take your time there are many photo opportunities and also many alternativ spots for an overnight stop.

Pick nick site next to river, shade, some children playground, nobody was here! Even cement flat parking places for vehicles!

Wunderschön Canyon, nachts absolut ruhig.

Quiet indeed. Area is easily accessible but the twists and the rough road might not be suitable for big Riggs

It sorta reminds me of a post apocolyptic school yard scene. Awesome canyon drive, well worth the detour, and a great, quiet place to camp. It even has level concrete pads it you choose to use them.

Efectivamente es tranquilo, lastima que en esta zona ahora el río no lleve agua.

A little diversion off the RN40 but well worth the effort, especially when you have a great drive through the canyon with its amazing geological formations and then find yourself at a very peaceful campsite. Despite the lack of water in the river and some trash scattered around, this makes for a very restful wild camp on your way through to San Rafael. We were here alone in peak season. There are a number of fire pits and an old children's playground so we guess it maybe busier here at weekends.
