Description

Beautiful camp between Rio Amarillo and Rio Negra - take the track down towards the river and cross part of it. Flat spot just off the track. Stunning mountain backdrop with the sound of the nearby rivers. We opted to camp here as the campsites on the way looked a bit grim. The place where the rivers join is a short walk downstream. many rocks on the ground so not very tent friendly.

Latest Check-Ins

There are multiple nice places up the road for cars and tents with green trees snd grass. The river was brown and ugly when I was here so the place next to it wasn't pleasant.

Nice spot for camping beside the river, also for several days. Easy to cross because there's little water. Quiet and peaceful night with relaxing sounds of the river and millions of stars above. Good starting point for "Estaciones" or "Vuelta al Pique"....

Nice and quiet spot 150 m after crossing the yellow river. Depending on river flow, 4WD is preferable. The man living next to the spot visited us to check everything was normal. Was ok we stay for the night. Funny melt of the yellow and cristal rivers 200m downstream. The kids enjoyed

You will need 4wd to cross the yellow river to get here! We tried to drive to this spot but there was no way we were going to cross that muddy mess in a 2wd Transit. We had to reverse 150meters on a narrow stretch to get out.

There is parking space for 3-4 vans heading to this spot though, right by the blue information sign, just before the river. It’s flat, we were alone and very quiet. Still a good spot and so much better than the other spots listed in iO around Chilecito.

we went at Rio negro spot, just after this Rio amarillo spot. nice to spend the night. there is only a slide of water in the Rio Negro but still good to here the noise of the water flooding. an old man came and said no problem to spend the night here.

We prefered the spots at the rio negro. Nice and quiet. Clear water to have a shower in the river.

Approximately 2 km after this place, you can find much nicer places directly at the rio negro with clean water. (high clearance)

Report Check-In

We stayed two nights just before the river crossing besides the street (there is a kind of mirador/parador/parking space next to a tree). Police came by after sunset and told us that we should be careful cause it might be snowing (very nice guy), no more traffic in the night.
If you have the time follow the street to estacion 3, you leave your car at the farm of the people living there and have a hike of 15 min to get up. Possible without 4wd if you go a little slowly. We were all alone there and had a lot of fun with exploring the abandoned place. Also met a very nice and curious guanaco on the way back. Also we had a warm shower down the street at one of the Campings (the first if you drive downwards) for 50p for two persons.

I believe this is not the correct position. There is a flat area before the yellow river, also some places on the way after you cross it. Do not expect good wind protection. We divided not to stay.
