Permanent Police Checkpoint on the access road to the Saiq Plateau. From here onwards only vehicles with 4x4 are permitted. They check and they know how to identify a 4x4.
The road to the top is the finest tarmac/asphalt but there is no arguing with the police men. The reason seems to be the many steep downhill kilometres on the way back down from the plateau.
We don't know about motorbikes or bicycles but trailers, even when pulled by a 4x4, are not permitted.
We told them about our off-road suspension and AT tyres, that we can handle steep roads but no chance. We got a lift from our friends in their 4x4 truck at the end.
