Description

Combined Location for Immigration and Aduana for both countries.

Note: SOAT for Peru can be purchased after completing TIP when you cross the bridge into Peru.

For Ecuador, no SOAT is needed, and there is no way for foreigners to purchase local insurance.

Everything below is correct. Also, you can now buy SOAT in the same building, and for our landcruiser (officially a 4 door 5 seater) it was $35.00 for a whole year (pretty sure the guy added 2 bucks tip for himself as we paid 37. but form says 35). $12.00 for one month.
We arrived at 8:15 am on a Wednesday and we were the only ones here.
Tried for more than 90 days but the guy wouldn't even let us explain why, so 90 it was.
Super easy organized border. Best one we have crossed in the whole trip

Very good organized bi-national border crossing. We had to provide a hotel booking for Columbia, which includes our names and passport numbers. It must be in spanish or tranlatet to spanish. We got a transit visa for 10 days. The toll from Ecuador needs also the motor number.

Ecuador > Peru. Easy and fast crossing in big beautiful new building. Immigration and Aduanas for both countries are all in same building. Helpful staff directing you to which of many windows for each step. Bought our SOAT afterwards on the way across the bridge into Peru.

easy border crossing. in and out in an hour. the peruvian aduana did enter the van and opened a couple of closets as inspection. he also asked us if were carrying vegs and fruits

Update for dogs: we crossed the border from Ecuador to Peru and at the final check a guy from 'agriculturo' asked about the papers for the dog. We showed him her vaccination report and he was fine with that. At another control some km later another agriculturo guy asked about the papers again and accepted the vaccination report, but we think only because he didn't care for any trouble and because we acted super self secure about that being correct and sufficient. So if you don't have a health certificate like us, be prepared for this.

Fast, clear process. Took us only 45 min. And now all four steps in the same white building.

Good luck!

Report Check-In

Very easy process. On a wednesday at 11am we were the only one. Total 45min.
Exit Ecuador :
- Go inside the big white building to get the exit stamp on passport.
- Then to cancel the TIP, the office is still down the road. A guy outside can call him and he will come pick you up to get your TIP stamped. He keeps the paper but take a photo in case they ask for it (they did not)

Enter Peru :
- Go to Peruvian immigration in that same big white bulding to get your passport stamped
- go to aduana still in the same building to get your TIP done
- drive to Peru and after the bridge on the left don’t forget to get the SOAT! (Insurance)
- no one asked to check the van

ps on the side of Ecuador there is a big complex of new white buildings obviously meant for the border crossing but it is not being used. Just follow the road past it and there you will see the actual border. Our border crossing took a total of 2 hours.

relaxed easy border crossing. it's clear where you have to go and friendly people. just make sure when you leave Ecuador you get an exit stamp In your passport as they check this when you want to enter Peru. Also take a photo of the cancelled TIP because they ask for this proof when you drive out of Ecuador. And make sure all the vehicle numbers on the tip are correct. Aduana did want to look inside our vehicle but they just had a quick look and that was it. They did ask if we had fruit or vegetables. If you want to exchange money do so in Macara because it's not possible at the border. A few hundred meters after the border into Peru there's police doing another check although they may not always be there.

The process is simple though somewhat time consuming for foreign vehicles. In the end you need to receive an email with a code for the Tip. They let us use their WiFi for that. Nice people.

Just to make sure: There is no vegetable / fruit or meat control coming from Peru to Ecuador. The same seems to be true for the opposite direction.

Easy border crossing from Peru into Ecuador. Official at Aduana confirmed that SOAT for Ecuador is only mandatory for Ecuadorian vehicles, tourists and vehicles with foreign license plate do not need to have one, however, if you wish so, you can go and see an agency in one of the larger cities.

This is the place to register your vehicule when coming from Peru. Officer told me that SOAT is not necessary. In case of emergency you have just to phone at 911.
