Something not right?

Description

Camping area of small park, next to a lagoon, right off the highway. Howler monkeys, mosquitoes, friendly rangers. All shade, no sun, very humid. Not many level spots. Heavy rigs might want to stay in the parking lot (not bad either) as ground is very soft (grass/mud) (Update 08/2021: Ground was not soft at all, parked on the grassy lot marked with area de camping). Perfect for tents and vans, no height restriction. Fixed price 25Q ppn.

Really lovely lake and wild walks, we didn't camp but got there at 8am and spent most of the day there between walking, the little dock and our van in the big open carpark. Super chilled and friendly. Bring repellant for the mossies.

Report Check-In

Still 50Q per adult but kids do not pay. WC and cold shower. Not very level but lots of dragonflies at night.

Report Check-In

Perfect place to stay! We were able to swim in the lake. Shower and toilet were clean. People who watch the place are really welcoming. Safe place. Price was raise to 50 Q pp but really worth it

Report Check-In

Now is 50Q per person! Toilet,Cold Shower but no WiFi! Nice Park withe many trees!

Great little national park. Perfect to camp with a tent or a small RV. Very nice lagoon for swimming. We saw a baby crocodile there at sunset as well as a tarantula not far from the wooden pontoon. The howler monkeys are not far away, it's nice to hear them. The palapa with the mosquito net is also nice for eating quietly without mosquitoes. Toilet and clean cold shower. We painfully pick up the Tigo signal. The wifi is private and they don't share the password. We paid 25Q per adult, children are free (after negotiation).

Friendly rangers! Green area for camping and a beautiful lagoon! 25Q per person.

Report Check-In

Nice spot, it’s 25 per person. Flush toilet and shower. Lots of locals down by the water. Can’t beat the price. Wifi as well after 5pm. Very large screened in Palapa with table, chairs & power.

Report Check-In

Friendly staff and nice campground! There is a good shower and a water toilet.

Had a quiet night - just some howler monkeys came around and were somewhere next to our car.

We enjoyed the Palapa - no need to worry about Moskitos!

Nice place for ohne Night. Is was very very Hot and the lake also warm. Warm welcome. Price 25 Qeztal p.P. Shower ok but not so clean. Toilet clean but we don’t use it.

Report Check-In

Nice place and quiet.
Couple lovely dogs, good toilets and shower. Lagoon is questionable but locals swimming.
Trail around lot which we walked with our dogs a few times.
Nice hosts and better then other places.
Not bad for the price ✌🏻

Arrived here after closing time (opening hours are until 5PM - we arrived at 6PM), but the gate was opened and we were warmly welcomed. We travel by van and then you can choose to either stay in the (gravel/leaves) parking lot or the (grassy, wetter) camping area. We dared to drive onto the grass in the dry season, but still a bit wet and slippery. This place is great!! Much better than I expected from reviews here.
Apart from the serenity and the sounds of howler monkeys this place also just has great facilities for the price (25Q pp). At the camping area there’s a huge palapa with mosquito nets all around with inside a big table, chairs, a sink with running water and soap and electricity (plugs and light). So you’re all set for staying outside in the evening. Mosquitos were okay in February. Normal for the region and with the mosquito nets around the palapa it was fine.
About bathrooms: we were immediately pointed to the flush toilet (with toilet paper and very clean) and the shower and sink (with soap). Never even saw a pit toilet.
Down the hill the lake (nacimiento del agua- so this place is special because the water comes up from the ground!) is pretty. You shouldn’t swim immediately on the side when you enter because of sulfur. But in the middle (there’s a wooden walkway) it’s fine. Don’t swim at sunset or in the dark because of crocodiles. Otherwise the guys told us it’s fine. There’s also two walking routes of 1km each.

Because the road was blocked going south (accident happened) we decided to crash here for the night. really quiet and serene place, lots of howler monkey action at night and morning. the people that live on the site collect a small fee and show you around. You can swim in the lake but not at the sides because of crocodiles...

Report Check-In

Nice place, all well kept. The price is officially 25 ppn and you even get a printed recipe collected by the forest authority. The guy collecting the money might not be on site, but the staff on sight will call him. Very friendly people they offered that we could use bathrooms and showers meant for employees. The pit toilets behind the main building are very funky with bats living in there. Mosquitos are crazy, so definitely bring repellant or mosquito nets.

Report Check-In

Quait place, too much mosqito, near way. Now is not free, 25q per person.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. We put our tent and cooked under the large palapa, perfect as it was raining a lot. Lots of mosquitoes. Only pit toilet, no shower. Q25 per person. Howler monkeys, birds, squirrels.

Report Check-In

Set prices here now. Sign posted. Charge 25q pp as a foreigner fee (regular fee is 15pp). Park closes at 5pm. A group of hombres monitoring the entrance. They stay at the park. Allowed us to use the flush toilets! Only people here. Nice spot. Didn't swim in the water….quite a lot of algae….oh...and there is a sign for “crocodile precaution” ;)
Mosquitos Galore! Bug spraaay!

Report Check-In

4 people on bikes, there was some rain so we camped our 3 tents under the palapa. Nobody asked for donations. Only pit toilets and we were told showers are for employees only.

Report Check-In

Stayed at this quiet park one night. Friendly rangers, happy to have campers. Donated 30Q for 2 people in truck camper. Did not locate any cold shower or flush toilets, only pit toilet. Many locals hang out during day time to swim in the lagoon or have a picnic. Small hiking trail in the park where you see the howler monkeys. Mosquitos are a given with the lagoon and trees around . Still a good place to stay for a night.

Report Check-In

Spent a night at this quiet park. Friendly rangers, large grassy area and large palapa. Enjoyed the short trail and saw the howlers.
During the day time many locals enjoy a swim in the lagoon.
I did not locate any flush toilets or a cold shower as previously mentioned, pit toilets only.
No fee but donated 30Q.

Beautiful spot. Still donation, we paid 30.-Q. Cold showers, flush toilet. Few mosquitoes because of the season I think.

good place to stay, friendly, quiet, safe Military patrol shows up, simple toilet, free? Iveco 90 - 16 AW

Report Check-In

good place to overnight on the way toward antigua, more or less confirming other comments. especially the mosquitos!
bathrooms were pretty gross, didn't use.
we were asked to fill out a survey about the park and it's services. seemed to be trying to gauge if they should be charging for use and if they should invest in new facilities.
as of now, still donation only.

Report Check-In

Great place to camp for the night.

Very rustic but clean pit toilets (complete with bats!) and a nice palapa and swimming dock in the Laguna.

Great trails inside the park to do a little bit of exploring.

The rangers were really nice and seemed happy to have us there. They had us fill out our information, but never mentioned a fee or suggested a donation.

We spent a very quiet night. The only sounds were the birds, bugs, and early morning howler monkeys.

Report Check-In

Nice, quiet spot in the nature. A lot of mosquitos in the night. Camped one night here for free. Big grass area and palapas next to it. Wasn't aloud to drive our van on a grass area so stayed on a wide driveway which was not a problem at all. Lake was right next to the camp spot, water clear and warm. Ok toilets without water, no shower or sink to wash dishes. Lovely quiet jungle paths next to the camp and could hear monkeys around. We have two dogs, first the worker said they're not usually aloud but after I said iOverlander says yes to them he said yes as well. Dogs were also aloud to walk off the lead everywhere which is was nice.

Report Check-In

Nice location. Paid 40 pesos for two for camping
