Something not right?

Description

This place was recommended to me by a parts dealer on 10 de julio (see MK Repuestos). They serviced our Pathfinder, changed the engine belts and changed the front wheel bearings. They did a fantastic job, were really friendly and charged less than half the price of another mechanic popular with overlanders. I recommend - the guy I spoke to was Hector and the address is Roberto Espinoza 660.

We had visit Hector's garage cause the seller in his report aware me that the CV joint boots need to be replaced, but señor Hector checked it and told (and show to me) that everything at the bottom of my new car is in good condition. And, he gave me a free advices about the tires changes. IRecommend.

Very good mechanics ! Very nice and helpful too. We were happy to go there. We had lots of things to change in our car (amorguadores, frenos ? pastillas + discos, and one soporte motor). They did it the day we arrived, and for a very good price (140 000 pesos total for the work). Good location because its not far from the parts shops street (and 20 minutes from the center : you can easily go there if there is some waiting). Pretty cat around ;). We totally recommend this place !

helpfull (and seems very honest) mechanic, he check our vehicule without appointement, showing all the piece to have a better explanation. I Guess it would be a good place to do a pre-sale check.

We went to Hector's garage in Jan-23 based on previous overlanders' reviews. We had just bought a car that needed oil & filters changed. He quoted us $50,000 for this when other (bigger) garages had quoted $80,000. We ended up paying $60,000 for the work + an extra 2L of engine oil. He was very helpful, inspected the car thoroughly and took us to a nearby shop to get the right spare headlight bulbs and a few other stuff we needed. Would definitely recommend.

Very very happy with our vehicle service! Hector was kind and thorough and even hopped in and drove us himself to another mechanic to do a bit of welding that his shop wasn't equipped for!! Would definitely have our van serviced here again :)

Report Check-In

Definitely would recommend to get your car/van checked up at this place. We came with our Mitsubishi Montero without contacting him first. Hector helped us right away, we got an oil change, new air and oil filter and 4 new shock absorbers in a few hours. He explained and showed us everything for which we were really grateful. At the end of the day we made a test drive together. He showed us some pictures of him and other happy overlanders so he’s indeed very ‘known’ in the overland world! would come here again!

Report Check-In

After looking for several hours to get our new shocks put on our truck, we finally looked on iOverlander and found Hector. He was very friendly, very reasonable and allowed us to use his garage to do other repairs while our shocks were put on. Charged 20,000 for replacing the 2 shocks. Says he prefers to work on Gas vehicles rather than Diesel. Very friendly, would go back again.

The most funny and crazy mechanic in South America, and the most efficient worker of all our 7 months trip. Don’t hesitate if you have any trouble with your vehicle, go and ask for Hector, he is the best ! He knows well about IOverlander and he likes travelers :)

El mecánico más divertido y loco de Sudamérica y el trabajador más eficiente de nuestros 7 meses de viaje. No dude si tiene algún problema con su vehículo, vaya y pregunte por Héctor, ¡es el meilleur!!!

Señor Hector is a great man. He is a
specialist in what he is doing. You wont be bored while visiting :)

Report Check-In

Hector is a great guy, very relaxed and friendly and we really got the feeling he is someone you can trust. We had them replace a strut rod bushing and the front suspension stabilizer bar links on our van, the work was done quickly (1hr) and cost 30.000 pesos. Hector also took me down the street and helped me purchased spare parts I needed, as well as got someone from a nearby glass place to come and look at a crack in our windshield. Unfortunately he wasn't able to fix the main problem we have which is an oil leak, as he doesn't have a lift and I think the job is too big for him. If you need less complicated work done this is a good place.

Report Check-In

....maybe I caught him on a bad day but my experience with Hector was very different to those listed here. Came in with an engine issue that has been through 7 mechanics with no solution.... I was very excited about this one though as I finally had an engine warning light! Unfortunately despite me asking him to save the scanner info, he deleted it all loosing my new clue. He then said it was all fixed despite me attempting to explain it was an intermittent issue and then called me crazy for suggesting it wasn't fixed.... left really really frustrated and in a worse state than I entered :(

Hector is a great mechanic and amazing person. He checked our car before leaving for Patagonia, changed all fluids etc. Very fair price. Recommended!

The owner's name is Hector, he is well professional and kind. For the servicio of my Honda pilot, he took me to find the air filter of engine with a long walking on 10 de Julio where there are hundreds of stores, and helped me to choose right and good price, otherwise according to my foreign face, the price sometimes will definitely be higher. highly recommended to do the service here.

Report Check-In

we've stopped here because of the numerous positive comments.
our motorhome had a noise in the direction.
they've made a bad diagnostic.
they dont' have the tools for motorhome and big rigs.
firstly they've changed 2 pieces (bielettes de direction) and in the evening the noise was still here. the next day we go again and they say there's no noise. finaly they say we've to buy other pieces (rotules de direction) and they just have changed one because they don't have the good tools and it has taken more than 2hours for the first.
finaly, they seemed very friendly at our first meeting but after it was not the same
there's just one mecanician and the two others people are chiefs
definitely not recommended for big rigs or motorhome

We visited Hector's garage today and did an oil change and filters change, he is a fantastic mechanic and he solved some issues in our car that other mechanics couldn't even start looking at! Seriously he is amazing!

Hector is the best mechanic you will find in Santiago. He is very famous between overlanders but he doesn't charge you like so.
He is very knowledgeable, super honest, trustworthy, funny and is cheap!! yeah!!😊
He checked my car before going to Patagonia and repaired few things for a very good price.
Since then he does all the maintenance and no problem at all.

They are legend.!!!! They have been working so hard on my ford e150 farest mechanics I ever met. They work a lot with overlanders but don't charge like so. I definitely recommend this place. Knowledgeable, if they don't Know how to or if they can't fix your problem they ll tell you where to go but won't try to f++k you up. I had a gorgeous experience there. Also super friendly.

Very friendly mechanics (especially Jorge!). They helped us out with changing the front control arms of our Nissan X-trail. They charged CLP 60.000 for two hours of work. We bought the control arms ourselves at 10 Julio street. We went back for a second time to have our breaks checked, they had a very thorough look at it and told us everything was fine. We would definitely recommend this place if you look for a mechanic close to 10 Julio street!!

I went here because of some grinding noise at my Ford Explorer. With no Spanish knowledge I used a translate App to communicate. Didn't take long and we knew it's the front right bearing. He started taking the wheel apart right away. Then we went shopping for a new bearing. The bearing was 130.000 and he charged 50.000 for an afternoons labour (Ford bearings are a pain to replace). That's 270$ in total. Back in Canada I paid 600 - 800$ for that. Great afternoon, highly recommend those guys!

Really friendly staff. Hector inspected our car for 15,000 pesos. He also let us use some of his tools to fix our Thule box for no extra charge.
