Description

Campsite off the road. You can see a white (I think information related sign) on the right hand side if coming from Argentina. North of road.

Small dirt track north of the main road- a bit bumpy for a start but we were in a two wheel drive van and it was fine. A bit further up the road is the brick remnants of a building. We parked at the building remnants, a 2 min walk straight ahead (as if walking to Chile)there is a stream.

* 200m further north is a big area next to the river. No 3G further in.

It’s the start of the hike “Quebrada Ranchillos - Cascada Rachillos” on allTrails too. So we camped for the night, then hiked the next morning before setting off. So only downside is might have others park to do the hike also (we had one car turn up briefly).

Latest Check-Ins

We also drove our campervan a few hundred meters further than the abandoned house, and stayed directly next to the river (although not many flat spots). Road is fine, but you definitely need some clearance. Especially for the last steep part down; there is a nasty big rock sticking out of the road. The next day it took it quite some effort to get up again with out 3,5ton 2WD van, but manageable if experienced. Place itself is magical, super quiet and amazing stargazing.

stayed at the place directly a couple of hundred meters further

Report Check-In

We were here at night with a citadine (Chevrolet joy) its was a Little bit bumpy but ok.
Excellent view, natural source, you can walk for discover the place.

We slept in the car and its was ok, beautiful stars and mountains view !

Report Check-In

Spent 2 nights here, next to the river, about 2-300 meters past the abandoned house. Relatively today and unseen from the road, lots of stars. Rocky trail to get to the river, but 2wd is fine

It can be warm in the middle of the day, so we went into the river (see photo). Lots of stars.

Report Check-In

Try driving past the marker, no 4x4 needed but a bit of clearance does not hurt. The road does not go very far.

There are a few spots right by the river, not super level but plenty of rocks around. Small pool in the river to cool down.

Not much wind protection. Great for Starlink. Super quiet at night, not visible from the street.

This is a lovely quiet spot. We parked a couple of nights at the abandoned building but then realised it better further on. The small dirt track forks to the right just before the buildings and you can follow it a few hundred metres further. Then you can park right by the river, even further from the road, less broken glass and no other cars. Stayed here at the weekend and only saw the odd hiker who parked at the buildings not here. We loved it and the hike is really nice too.

Good spot for cyclists seeking shelter from the wind! We stayed here one night, water from the river silted when we were here but ok to boil.
