Description

A great campground near Merida. The only campground near the city. It is 5 mins away from the Periférico and 20 mins from downtown.

Andy and José Ramón travelled through Mexico and established their Basecamp here. They’ve created an awesome spot where you can stay and spend the night, a week or even stay for a whole season if needed. They’re aware of the overlanders needs and offer all kinds of service such as tools rentals, deep cleaning service, mailbox (for Amazon or DHL/UPS you can receive a package here), rent a scooter or bicycle for the day, etc etc. Visit their Facebook page for a full catalog of services and rates.

Among the amenities they offer on the campsite you’ll find:

Dipping Pool
Bathrooms / Showers
Tent camping area
Fire pit
Recycling Bin
Compost Bin
Grey/Black water dump station
Pressurized Fresh water supply
Hammock area
Outdoor kitchen (currently under construction)
WiFi

They’ll be adding a laundry room shortly but there’s a laundry one block away from site.

You may contact them via WhatsApp at +525538598248 (José Ramon’s) or at +529995970197 (Andy’s). Ask for availability before you go. Most rigs will fit the driveway, They’ve got a 32’ class A motorhome so ask them first if yours isn’t any larger than this. They both speak great English. Again check with them for rates and availability.

Perfect place to stay near Merida! Little pool, shower and very friendly people! Full hook upand easy to go to Merida with Uber.

Great location right in Mérida! I like what they’re doing here. Sweet outdoor shower and I love that there’s an outdoor kitchen so I don’t have to heat up my rv in March! It’s already very functional but They have great plans to make it a true oasis.Jose provided me exceptional support. I needed some help in Mérida finding and communicating with a good dog groomer and collecting a package from a friend. Jose helped with both! He really went above and beyond for me. A great guy and a great place to stay in Mérida.

All spots have electricity and water now! Two dump stations available. The outdoor kitchen is coming up. WhatsApp Jose Ramon ahead of arrival at 5538598248

We had a peaceful stay here. Jose Ramon was very welcoming and responsive on WhatsApp. I'm uploading a map photo of the better route to bring in if you're a little larger like us (truck and 24' trailer) -- Calle 35 is much wider than the street google took us in on (which was Calle 25). Once at the campground, we were able to park our trailer close to the gate...maneuvering into the back sites, when there are others all ready camped here, would have been pretty difficult. If you have a larger vehicle, it's definitely best to check with Jose Ramon ahead of your arrival and try to request one of the sites by the gate so you don't have to navigate between the trees and other rigs. There are essentially two options for longer vehicles, on either side of the driving lane inside the campground.
We had access to water, dump, and were plugged into a standard 3 prong outlet. Easy to book an Uber ride from here. Would definitely stay again!

a great parking space in Merida! Jose and his family were really nice and Jose speaks great English. We were able to fill up our fresh water, dump, use the sanitary facilities and its small pool. Fast Wifi! If possible, stand a little further towards the house, then it can also be used in the vehicle.

Un lugar seguro, el dueño muy amable, tiene lugar para 8 motor home aproximado, cuenta con una alberca pequeña, baño sin agua caliente y regadera, a pocos minutos de la ciudad de merida

Location is good for going in and out of Merida Centro, easy to take an Uber to get around. We booked ahead and met Jose Ramon upon arrival. Very nice.
The place is narrow, not even, and could use gravel or some mulch to not track dirt in & out. The property has a few trees to maneuver and holds maximum 6 vehicles comfortably.
1 shower cold water only & 1 toilet. Sometimes toilet paper but best to have your own. We bought & left them a toilet brush on 2nd day and I cleaned the toilet.
There is a black water dump for portable toilets. And they have 2 spots with full hookup dump & electricity. All on same side with shower & toilet.
The other side does have electrical cord to plug in.
Other- the dipping pool was tiny and dirty.
Not really ideal if you want to chill & hang out. Mosquitoes were bad all hours day or night!
$300pesos per night.

Stayed over the Christmas and new years holiday. The time we spent here was fantastic. Just outside of Merida. Lots and lots of things to see and do. It is family owned and operated (English speaking too). Home laundry service for a small charge. There is a locking gate for extra security. The best place we stayed at since we entered Mexico.

Stayed 2 quiet nights at José’s.
Nice garden thought for travelers with restrooms and outside shower (cold but ok!) The owner is very welcoming and helpful. Do not hesitate to text him before arrival, he answers very quickly.

This basecamp is the ideal place to visit Mérida. It's quiet here. The shower is cold but has great pressure. José is very helpful and always responds immediately to WhatsApp.

The owner was super nice. We needed a place to dump our small toilet and it was only $50 pesos. He also took our trash bag and said he would take care of it. Jose is super nice and said he cleared the land himself. He just opened it 3 months ago so he’s still trying to improve it every day. We didn’t stay here bc $300mx was too steep so we slept for free at Sam’s Club.

Its a good base to explore Merida. We felt very safe and slept amazing! Its very peaceful.

Report Check-In

We came here after 4 days in Merida to enjoy a quiet night and a shower before continuing our journey.
The cold shower has great water pressure and is very comfortable in the heat.  Unfortunately there are a lot of mosquitoes on the site, we have only seen so many in the jungle here in Mexico!
The owner gave us the WiFi password, but we couldn't connect to the network (which keeps dropping out), so the internet wasn't usable for us.
The owner asked for 300 pesos for the night, maybe we could have bargained, but in our opinion the 300 is not justified for what the place offers.

Basecamp it is, easy to find and indeed a good spot to explore Merida and take a rest. It’s a very quiet place on the edge of the big city.
Uber will cost approx 130P single route to the center.
Access through the entrance gate is somewhat tight but even doable for bigger rigs. The shower is simple but works great. José Ramon is a very friendly host and he received some Amazon packages upfront our arrival, very handy but ask him before for the right address and description!!
We sure recommend this place for Overlanders although the price (300P) is somewhat stiff for what you get.

Everything as described. I wrote José at short notice & received a quick response. We paid 200 pesos for 1 night (we are 2 people in a CamperVan). The most necessary things are available: Rest, shower, toilet, shade, gazebo with table & chairs, compost, trash can & water to drink.

To reach the campsite you would have to leave the paved road for the last 200 meters & drive along a dirt road between two walls. Behind the bend on the right side is the destination 😉 Absolute recommendation for all who are in the area & looking for a quiet & safe place.

Nice place to explore Merida. Uber one way is about 100 pesos. The camping is 200 for two people. The shower is epic and the bathroom is nice and clean. Be prepared for heat and bugs luckily not a lot of mosquitoes. The owner is very nice a accommodating and it was nice to be able to leave our truck and see the city without worrying about our truck getting broken into. Overall would recommend, it is still a work in progress but it has enough to stay for a few days and a great option if you want to explore mérida city witch is very safe in fact the safest city in the continent. As a side note there is no signage the property looks a bit odd for a campground at first glance so better to text the owner and have him meet you when you arrive.
