Description

Amazing (big) campsite under a giant tree with private ablutions, hot water, lots of shade and wifi. The owners, Theo & Marnie, are just amazing and the most welcoming people. They also have brand new tent camps. A home away from home. Highly recommended.

Brillant campsite, large campsite plots under the shade overlooking the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park fence. New deck overseeing the waterholes with large numbers of animals, new pool (nice and fresh) and great ablution blocks (one campsite even have it's very private own one).
Owners are dedicated and always helping.
Location's a stone throw from the park entrance and the tared road.
Must see, must go.

We fully agree to ceomments before. Unfortunately we waited 1 hour until they let us in: doorbells out of order, nobody heard us blowing the horn, no Orange reception, but finally we got in!
By using the mentioned coordinates, you pass the entrance gate. So don‘t follow to the end!

amazing place!

I got here in a 2 wheel drive but also got stuck and the very kind owners came and saved me. when leaving, we went a different road, which is very much possible for brave 2 wheel drives, BUT ring the owners first as its not the official entrance 😊

What a wonderful place! We stayed 2 night instead of one at the campsite, because it was such a lovely stay. The ablutions really clean and beautiful made, nice pool, free firewood, the staff is great and the lookout platform - omg SO AMAZING. We saw thousands of zebras, Wildebeest, Hippos, crocodiles and lots of elephants coming here to drink. As there is a water pump, the waterhole never gets dry. In night & morning we also heard lions around.
Wifi is okay not super fast. There is also Wifi now at the lookout, but just in the behind corner :D changed prices, it’s now 250 pppn - but really worth it.

i agree totally with other comments. if you ask you will get a device and have than internet on the campground. wonderflul place. in short distance (walk of 5min) to the viewing deck located on the big waterwhole. great stay.

Adding to all the previous positive comments I would like to draw the attention to the recently built platform from which one can watch numbers of up to 70 elephants and 40 hippos (on average about half the numbers) splishing and splashing in the big pool in the river. One can sit there for hours, as you can in front of the little pools that are found at each campsite and cater for all sorts of birds and other small animals like squirrels and mongoose. A magic place. The kindness of the owners and the engagement of their factotum, who is mechanic, chef, plumber etc. are outstanding.

Great spot to land after being in the parks! Large camp sites, lots of hot water and a clean washing bin for laundry and dishwashing. Walk to the river and enjoy hippos and other wildlife. Cold beer and wine available at pool site and wonderful meals upon request. WiFi at pool but not campsites. Best part of Camelthorne are the Owners who make the stay even more enjoyable.
Also, BTC network no good and bring your own drinking water.

One of our most beautiful campsites we ever had in Botswana. We stayed 2 nights and drove the short way to the park, where we watched so many zebras, wildebeest and elephants. The campsites are very private with a superb ablution tent and much place for braaing. The owners cared for us and gave us hints for the park. We definitely will come again!

Do you want to be at the heart of nature, in a great place with perfect service, full kindness and quality setup ?

There you are !

Perfect Tents with great food and full availability of staff and Owners. xtremely clean and new campsite with all needed amenities.

Very well located campsite and animals everywhere around on the Boteti. And the best is that the owner's are doing it right, not only farming and running their lodge but also being a great help to the nearby park and it's animals.

I highly recommand

Please note that from march 2024, Camping overnights rates are BWP220 PPN (USD20).

We had the most memorable time at Camelthorn and would highly recommend to anyone. Hosts Marnie and Theo are experienced campers and they have built a campsite with great attention to detail. Fire wood is available at each site and ablutions have wonderful hot showers. There is a viewing point over a watering hole where we had sundowners watching elephants, hippos and zebra! We also enjoyed a delicious meal cooked by the camp team.
It is easy to drive into the Makgadikgadi NP from the camp. We were there in dry season and saw hundreds of elephants and zebras in the dry Boteti River bed.

This was by far the greatest camp I have ever been too. The owners are so nice and very caring . They welcomed us so nicely and made us feel very much at home. The showers were supreme and we could hear the elephants , hippos and zebras very close by and surrounded by beautiful trees and scenery . They provided firewood and the most delicious fried bread, and even brought us wifi!!? Also a great source of information for things to do in the area and for central Kalahari, perfect stop between both parks
