Several flat campsites (some with fire pits) in the beautiful pine forest near the Hilso Trailhead. Drive thru the parking area and continue on the dirt road over 2 cattle guards. Pick your spot and enjoy the stay. There is an outhouse at the parking lot. The cell signal fades in and out. No 4x4 required. The road is in a good condition. dirt road closed for the season. Sept 15 to Mar 31

This place is pretty cool. Lots of trees. Came the first week of April. We had it to ourselves. The ground was a little mushy due to the snow here and there. Dogs were allowed to run free. Didn’t hear anything. Big echos!
Report Check-Ingreat turn around point. the dirt road is closes for the season I'm assuming just like the other one further down. bathrooms. snow covered lot though.
Report Check-InGreat spot in Cibola National Forest. There were a handful of pulloffs from the main road before this, but they were too muddy for us. This one was a bit muddy but pretty compacted and flat and we drove deep into the pines for a quiet evening. Not a soul in sight! Total dead zone on Verizon, but good connectivity with satellite.
Report Check-InIt’s a hot & windy Monday in Gallup but considerable cooler & enough trees to cut the wind. Been here 3 hours, haven’t heard a car or person. Some folks have a camper I passed. I suspect it may even be nicer farther in. But I’m thrilled to have found such a lovely place to stay for the night. There’s pit toilets when you turn into the trail. The no camping is for the parking lot. Just go through the gate and drive on up. And stake out a place for a night or 2!
