Description

Carlos Cesco Observatory, offering daytime and nighttime visits. Daytime: sun observation through telescope with filters, possible to see sun spots and eruptions; then guided tour through the observatory including the big telescope. Paid 700 pesos pp. Night time: only if it is not too windy. Star and moon observation, about 1 to 1,5 hours including lots of explanations and information, 1.000 pesos pp. For the night visit, an online reservation is needed - didn’t work for us Non-Argentinians, but they made it happen anyway. Had a great time.

In Leoncito there are two observatories. This one, which by now (3/2024) does night visits every day of the week (check https://oafa.unsj.edu.ar/ for Details and booking). the other is CASLEO (https://reservascasleo.com/) where night tours are offered from Friday to Monday. we did the first: 5000 ARS for extranjeros. good explanations about the sky, the Stars and astrophysics (whatever you want to know). friendly and competent guy, Tour in Spanish! there are 3 tourist telescopes. maybe not soooo impressive. during day visits you get to see the scientist's telescop. the less moonlight, the better, obviously!

We did the night tour. The price is now and 2500 pesos for foreigners. The vision through telescopes was not exceptional, but the stories who told us the astronomer who was the guide too and the vision of the starry sky with the naked eye was beautiful. Today there are also countless shooting stars.
