.....
Just like many places in the area this road too got hit hard by the cyclone.
Currently the road up to the marked point is passable and work is being done to clear it of the many rockslides.

At the marked point, the road fell completely down 10m into the river, right after a small tunnel. The only way I could pass was with the help of some local miners. We had to rope down my bicycle and gear using an electric wire and then I scaled down 10m to the river on a very steep cliffside.

All and all, kind of dangerous and not the best idea to do but I was determined to pass and it worked out well. I even spent the night at the miners' camp.

They said it might take weeks/couple months to fix so be sure to ask before taking this road.

Very pretty road otherwise.

Report Check-In

We drove the road with our motorbikes and it was no problem. There were also trucks and busses on the road. The road is often single lane and in a bad condition, but no problem.

Report Check-In

Generally as described. There are many rockslides and debris flows that occured in this Canyon along PE 3N between Chuquicara and Huarochi during the storm in March of '23. All of those have now been made passable, and the road is travelled by all types of vehicles including heavy trucks and buses. There are many single lane, potholed, repairs. Unless you are looking for a real adventure, consider avoiding this route during a storm, as many of the repairs look like they would fail quickly, and the one in the vicinity of this pin leaves the road and joins the riverbed.

passable road, but need a lot of patience to drive through. some narrow parts just wide enough for one car, and road is very bumpy with many potholes. there are pull outs but need to be very careful cuz next to us are steep cliffs. honk if you can't see incoming cars around a corner. definitely avoid driving it at night!

Report Check-In

you can pass. deviation gravel road nearby the river

Report Check-In

it is still in bad shape but completely doable... have patience and time... enjoy the road, it's beautiful.

Report Check-In

This is not a highway, but a partly potholed mountain road. It is being used by buses and heavy trucks, we drove it with a 12,5t camping truck. It is a beautiful and scenic road, but as parts have been washed out one has to go slow. It’s absolutely drivable, we had no problems at all and really enjoyed it. All problem parts are being or have been repaired

Report Check-In

Once upon a time this was a tarmac road but it is not any more. Parts of it have fallen away completely and the rest is covered in rubble so it's now a very bumpy dirt road, narrow and with big rocky overhangs. We gave up after half an hour from chuquicara and turned back. The rest of the 12 and ruta 3N is terrible, more pot holes than road.

Report Check-In

The road is open now and completely passable. Many buses and large trucks were using the road.

Report Check-In

The road is entire destroyed, but I just pass with my VW Kombi. DONT COME WITH YOUR BIG RIG HERE!!!

so, the road from Chimbote is very bumpy. many mudslides, collapses, holes etc... a passage was made along the river to pass next to the collapsed bridge. on the other hand further (about 10-15 kms) in a tunnel part of the road collapsed. I went with my van (fiat Ducato) but I think that wider, big motorhome or heavy truck, it won't pass. the people who work at this level asked us for 50 soles. (to partially pay for the rental of the backhoe loader). I will create a point. in any case, it took us almost 6 hours to go from Chimbote to Caraz via this road. maybe it's better to take another route further south...

still closed. road leading up to the closure is in rough shape. road completely destroyed in multiple locations. they've built little desvios around many, including one that takes you down to the river itself which wouldn't be passable if the river rises, until finally the road inside a tunnel is destroyed and no way through. closed for a while.
