Stunning views of the Tetons. One of 16 free designated dispersed camping sites along a dirt track accessed by driving through Elk Nature Reserve. Fire ring. Drinking water can be collected from the Curtis Canyon campground 1 mile earlier on the track. Track is quite rough so ideally need high clearance or take it very very slow.

Rough road to go up the hill, almost turned around because it was so hard. Lots of rocks and that kind of stuff. But totally worth it, the campsites are amazing! Some beats are active there right now,so storage your food.

We checked in one HUGE spot, there would have been space for at least 4-5 campervans / cars. People came over and sent us away, it’s their spots and they just left it for a couple of minutes (probably to check out places further up the hill). They didn’t want to share and we moved on to a (btw nicer) spot.Guys, we are all here having a great time, the way up is so hard, so don’t be so selfish and share space if there some left!

Amazing view. The way up was a bit difficult, but still doable in a higher 2WD vehicle. You can stay up to 5 nights for free.

By far one of the most beautiful spots I have ever camped at! Definitely worth the trek in. It’s about 5 miles of very rough terrain to get to spots 15 and 16. I’d recommend not going if you don’t have a 4x4 high clearance vehicle. Others have made it in their camper van, but it’s very rocky and rutted out. I think my skid plates scraped once or twice on my truck. The upper spot is more flat than the lower spot, but neither one is super level. I just used a rock to level my truck.

This spot is mis-labelled. You drive through the Elk Refuge (no camping), then into the Curtis Canyon dispersed camping area (camp only at designated sites, clearly marked). The road is rough and dead-ends at a high elevation. Two of the earlier sites, 7 & 9, are devoid of trees, but have great views of the Tetons. The 'Host', will come by and warn you about fire safety and the local wildlife-black and brown bears, plus cougars have been captured on trail cams. I saw nothing, but kept all food in the truck.

Fabulously beautiful spot, surrounded by wild flowers with view across to the Tetons. This is one of the free (but designated) dispersed sites up this dirt road. There are 16 sites along this track which is reached by driving through the Elk Nature Reserve. We arrived at 5pm and had no trouble finding a spot.

Once you pass the Curtis canyon campground on the right which are paid sites, going further up the mountain are all free sites. The road is ROUGH. I made it to site #9 in my Honda CR-V and it took an hour to slowly navigate the road but completely worth it. The sites have absolutely amazing views and we woke up with a buck right outside our tent! We ended up getting in our rooftop tent early this night because the hosts (super friendly) came and introduced theirselves and to warn us that they know of two grizzlies and a mountain lion in the area.

Tried going here but the road had a huge sign that says closed until may 1

Super rough road, but an amazing spot. It took us FOREVER to get up here, but it’s totally worth it. There is room for 2 or 3 vans or campers.

Awesome view, but it was a tough road to get here. Stayed at spot 8.

Sign says no camping or overnight parking allowed

Drove into Curtis Canyon and up through Elk Refuse. Once you past the Curtis Canyon campground (Paid site) if you continue up a very long rocky road (I was in a 30ft converted school bus with a tow car and it was rough but if you take your time it’s doable) we ended up in the marked campsite #7 once you come to a split in the road go left at the split (the right is a very rocky 4x4 trail for the side by sides and 4 wheel drive vehicles) and the first campsite is #7. We fit 2 converted buses (30’ and 35’) and one 33’ RV all with tow vehicles. We stayed the maximum 5 nights and the view is insane. (NOTE: road is rough, steep, and very very bumpy make sure you secure everything and take your time.

Lots of great sites!! But rough road the higher you go

great place. the road is a bit rough getting there. the spots are mostly what you would call "group site". big open parking lot with markers for sites. great views. the site #1 is a single site that looks awesome. we spent the night at the group site area.

When camping here, be certain to camp only at the designated spots (marked by small signs and numbered spots). Many people camp right around (but not within) the pay to camp site. We did this for a few nights and eventually a forest service ranger came through and warned everybody to find designated spots to camp. Otherwise, a great place with incredible views.

Road is a bit rough, but we handled just fine taking it slow in our 2wd conversion van. Apparently Forest Service will be bringing in a grader to smooth the road out within the week.
