Description

lots of places offer tours in this town, but we went here. we heard you needed a guide to enter the Amboro national park to see the giant fern trees (I'm not sure that's true as when we went on the hike we saw other people that looked like they were unguided). prices ranged from 320b per person for a private tour or if you got into a group of 6 or more then it was only 160b each. the lady at the counter was super friendly and helpful (no English) and instead of taking our money for a private tour she offered to switch our days around to get us on the cheaper days which meant we saved enough money to do another tour. the Codo de Los Andes trek was awesome! the first km is pretty grueling uphill, but the next 10 are all down hill. no shade at all so bring a brimmed hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. people on our trip didn't bring enough and ran out as it started raining really hard and slowed us down. The other trip with the giant ferns was less impressive but it was still super cool to see these fern trees that are 800+years old. our guide both days understands a lot of English but didn't speak much. he was very knowledgeable about both areas and kept a good pace.

Very beautiful walking tour through the Amboró-NP. Our guide Tibu was very good! He knows a lot, is very patient with everybody and everything (slow walking, taking pictures etc.) and he speaks very slow, so that we could understand his spanish very well.

We were walking about 11km in about 5-6h. Paid 160pP for the tour.

After the tour we asked him if he would know where we could fill up our watertanks. He got us to his private house and let us fill up from a tap in his garden. And than he said we also could sleep on his ground, so we did.

Sooooo nice! Highly recommended!
